Running board or not? Pics inside

Hi all,

Need your input on the running boards, I can't decide which one looks better.

IMO, it looks more ''equipped'' with the running boards, but a lot meaner without them.

Let me know what you think!

Nature will make that choice for you if you plan to offroad much. :)

I like how they look with them on, which is why when I ruined mine offroading I got some sliders, they fill that gap under the frame nicely and work far better. But if its just for going around town then I say keep them if you like them.

I prefer OFF, but as I have gotten older and wheel less; plus marriage... I leave it on. My better half hates getting in sans the running boards.

How are you going to wash and clean the roof. Plus get extra luggage on top without running boards? I guess if you lose them you'll improve your gas mileage.

I'm just being dumb. It honestly doesn't matter. We won't think you're less cool if you decide to keep them on.

That won't be a problem with my very impressive 5'9 and a 2-step ladder :-)

I think I'll keep them on for my lady and the 2 kids... I also wonder if it would destroy the seats side supports when getting in and out of the car.

Looks better on, looks cheap without them IMO

I am in the same boat. I like mine but know they look better off. My wife is only 5'1" and I have 4year old twins so I have to have something. Luckily I was able to pick up a set of step tubes from Roll Tide and finished getting them reprinted black before I left town. Can't wait to get them put on on, as well as my new wheels......:guitar2:

Off. I stopped calling them running boards and started calling them "things that get my pants dirty when I get out of the truck". I never used them and took mine off right away :)

I'd say on, it looks more complete, when you take them off it looks like something is missing. Also I think Toyota makes nice running boards, they look better than a lot of other stock RB's.

Unless you wheel your 4runner a lot I'd say keep them but if you want to offroad then I'd say swap them for a set of sliders.

Good thing I don't have to wear nice pants to work ha ha.

I thought about the sliders... just not the time right now with all the money we spend on the house and the new travel trailer we bought.

You're so right about the pants, when I get out of the truck without using the RB and I also end up with the back of my pants dirty. I miss the time I was a field technician and didn't care about a little dirt on my pants!

The first "mod" I did when I got my 4Runner was remove the running boards. For me, they didn't help at all for getting in the vehicle, and made it a PITA getting out. The first time I got out of the truck after taking them off was so comfortable lol

Of course it looks better with them off, but from a practical, day to day usage standpoint you do need them on the truck. I know my 2011 is better with them on but it looks bettere with them off!
