Running board or not? Pics inside

I believe you need something there, but I really don't like the stock boards so on my T4R the stockers are coming off as soon as I can afford some sliders. I just think the sliders look tidier against the body, and obviously more rugged too!
 
off, but get some spidertrax. it will complete that look perfectly, as it looks like the tires are still tucked under the car like a 5th gen in those first few pictures. good looking runner overall tho, good job.

I want to do it, but I feel like with the spidertrax it looks too wide and without not enough... I'd love to see it in person to make my mind on that too! I'd totally buy something that offsets by 3/4''.

Ti-Ben: I'm torn on the running boards and think they look good both ways. I'm going to take my running boards off to check it out. What size tires do you have on your runner? And are those the 18" rims??
 
I love mine. It looked so bare before I got them (thank you superman & Aha2988!) and they also served for my cheating ex. They also keep the sides cleaner & hide the stuff that hangs under the 4R.

I tried the same thing, took one side off, then both.

My vote on looks is no rinning boards or tubes, but its pretty non-functional with out any, especially if you're lifted.

I put a set of sport edition tubular steps on, which I like for looks better than the flat running boards and they serve the kids/GF solution as well as roof access.

Plus, one night I went to get in the truck in the dark and completely forgot there was no step, but my foot went up (and down quickly) expecting to step up...haha, that felt good...

So, sliders would work OK too for those needs I think, if you wheel your rig it would serve that as well.
 
I had the lighted boards on mine but switched to a set of the Tubes. Since i have the lift my kids and wife needed something. The sport tubes give it a more rugged look (and cheaper than sliders) that the running boards, so it was a good compromise.
 
My argument for keeping them on is their preventative way or at least reducing rust underneath the body. Keeps moisture from rushing around the side of the truck and going all underneath, now I know may not seem like a lot, but in the midwest with rain and driving a lot it really does add up. On top of that you then have to deal with all the melting snow and the roads are just garbage, its bad enough going all over the car, the least I could do is help the bottom of the vehicle.

Yeah but it looks so "civilized" with them on. I want the furthest thing from a Highlander as possible.
 
get sliders. don't want to crack you leather seats getting in and out of your runner, that is if you care.. you could always get seat covers if the leather gets mangled.
