Can you put a winch on the bull bar?

No. I doubt it'll even support the winch. But if it can hold the weight of the winch and cable, it'll probably rip the bull bar right off the front end the second you start to draw the cable in. The bar is intended for mounting additional lights, if it has the provisions for it.

I only see two brackets at the bottom holding the bull bar in place. It looks like the bar itself is a carry over from the 4th with possibly different brackets to clear the 5th's bumper, etc. It doesn't flow at all with the lines on the 5th. IMO, for starters, the hoop of the main bar should come up a lot higher rather than block the lower grille opening.

IMO, for starters, the hoop of the main bar should come up a lot higher rather than block the lower grille opening.

I wonder if they HAD to do that because it would block the view of the plate on the front, for states which require them on the front (raises hand). I doubt it would be legal to have a giant bar blocking the view of it. You could probably remount the plate somewhere else I guess.

The side steps I like, but would like them in black, not chrome for mine.

How much ground clearance do those front bull bars cut down?! Also kills your approach angle too! Guess they are more for looks than fuctionality though

The rear one is actually a good idea if you live in an area with a lot of street parking, makes those who 'park by braille' a lot less to worry about!

Looks like the equipment was designed for a smaller vehicle and then retrofitted (not very well) to sell under the 5th Gen category. I'll wait until something better comes along (something that was actually designed for the 5thgen.

Wow thanks for pointing that out. Guess it should be a bit higher to clear the lower opening. On the other hand the side steps sure look good. Oh and would have to agree the black would look sweet even on a blizzard white pearl 4Runner! :cheers: I will also wait for something that not only looks good but is functional.

When paying that much for a new vehicle, shouldn't have to be chasing down what should be an available option from a dealer on the other side of the country, nevermind coordinate this with a local dealer. Toyota really blew it on this one ....

i think some folks like the boards to ward off road-spray on the sides of the rig, but fwiw i don't think they're at all necessary from the functional perspective of getting in/out. my wife is 5'3" — no problemo.

My wife is even shorter and had trouble getting in when test-driving. Also, young kids that would never get in w/o running boards.

Test drove the MDX last night and LOVED it. I'm just worried about going from a Sequioa and 2 4Runners to an MDX that seems like a cross-over (although the dealer insists it's an SUV).

I wouldn't consider the MDX a direct comparison to the 4Runner. I guess it depends on your definition of "SUV" :nono:

I just traded in my third MDX for my first 4Runner - night and day difference. The MDX is a sports car SUV while the 4Runner is a real 4WD. Not in the same league at all - both are terrific vehicles but in different categories. The new 4Runner is a great driving/handling car on pavement, but the MDX was not very good as a 4WD at all. I could see someone having both at the same time for different driving reasons, but the 4Runner fits my style much better...

I didn't consider them to be at all equal. While I was very interested in getting another 4Runner, I was still ready for a big change. Going back to the 90's, I've had 2 pathfinders, 2 4Runners, a Sequoia, and now the MDX.

After that long run of SUVs, I've been ready for a breather. I'm hoping that the MDX is at least reasonably good in the snow. I've been spoiled for the last 20 years.

I do love the sports car feel of the MDX though. I'm sure I'll miss the cargo space and go-anywhere ability of the SUVs. They call the MDX an SUV, but it's really just a cross-over. A very comfortable one, though ...

mdx is nothing but a glorified honda pilot... if you ask me, no offense to anyone...even in its own league isnt up to par with x5 or FX. 4runner u cant compare to a lowly mdx

And after that brief intermission . . . I have a question about running boards/nerf bars/ step ups.

I've pretty much decided on some sort of tubular step ups, be they "nerf bars" or "step up bars" mainly for the ease of cleaning and lack of plastic (I'm in Florida and black plastic fades so quickly here).

I can't decide what would look best on my Blizzard Pearl SR5. I've seen pictures on the forum of a Trail with black tubulars and saw on this thread the silver Limited and SR5 with the stainless steel. But I've only seen other BP's with the OEM running boards, not with tubulars.

My personal experiences with such things are black tubulars on a black Explorer and stainless steel tubulars) on a black F-250 Crew Cab. Night and day differences and meant to achieve different looks on each vehicle (the Explorer has colored key bumpers and door handles so chrome would look out of place while the F-250 has a stainless steel toolbox and bumpers).

My initial thought for my SR5 was the stainless steel for longevity and to match the "chrome" already on the vehicle. But I'm weary of chrome overload and I couldn't help but think the black might be very clean and inconspicuous looking. Especially since my wheels are alloy and kind of that darker gray metal I've come to love.

Either way, I'm thinking about these Steelcrafts: 2010 Toyota 4-Runner Steelcraft Round Nerf Bars, Steelcraft Round Step Bar I'd planned, like some of you, to wait for the Westin offerings but I'm a 5'2" girl and am kinda tired of jumping out of my truck so sooner is better. Anyone have bad experiences with the Steelcrafts?
