Rust Help

Hey everyone, I'm new here :hello:

I have a '94 that unfortunately has been sitting outside for the past few years at my folks house. It was my first car and they are finally going to let me buy it from them. I recently started trying to learn more about cars by doing some simple things on it (oil change, filters, etc.). Nonetheless, it has been sitting for a while so I'm going to need to take it in soon for a full service to make sure there aren't any major problems. Anyways, I noticed a fair amount of rust on the underside. I searched through the forums here and saw some good info on rust protection, but given I'm pretty new at doing any kind of car work, I don't feel too comfortable conquering this on my own. I really want to make this a priority, because some spots look pretty flaky. So my question is, where would I go to get something like this taken care of professionally?..Is this something a body shop could handle?

Thanks in advance for helping me try and save my 4Runner!!!

Rust repair is expensive when done right, and should only be done right.

Describe to us where your seeing this rust. On the body or on the frame? Pictures are great.

Around here, we call rust "car cancer". In order to get rid of it, you need to cut out the rust and put in new panels. IF you just paint and bondo it, your just covering it up and it will be back worse than before.

Good luck.

i took it into the toyota dealer to get a full check up/service since its been sitting out so long...the guy thats going to work on it (also a 4runner owner) told me that he's seen alot worse and that most of the rust will probably wear away with normal driving as dirt/debris/water will naturally clean it away...ill take some pictures and see how it pans out and then probably eventually invest in some por15 for good measure....thanks for your responses!!
