rust hole at rear coil mount :(

Hey guys, so i took it upon myself to put in some new LC coils today and swap out my OME's.. i had dipped my boat in the salt water last summer on a few occasions so i thought there might be a little bit of rust work to be done. The Frame etc etc is very solid, no surface rust or anything but when i went to pop out the rear coil my crow bar went right through! i quickly took a wire brush and sandpaper to it and its more or less all metal (thin metal).. although it looks like there is a little area on top of the axle and under the mount that collects water - i have no idea how to attack that area as i can get my brush or any sandpaper in there. It looks a little worse than it is on the axle below the hole as i haven't really cleaned it out.. seems to be a mixture of what i sanded off and dirt

I have a lot invested into this truck.. i hate seeing this it breaks my heart, how bad does it look?

That nub just locates the coil. How solid does the rest of the spring perch feel?
If the rest is solid, I wouldn't worry.
I would paint everything with something like POR15. It is suppose to stop the rust.

thanks gerdo, rest feels solid.. i smacked it with a hammer and it held up fine. I sprayed some rust inhibitor which hardens and acts as a base to paint (with more rust paint) on top of. POR15 is hard to come across here and i only have one day left of garage use then back to the apartment life

Wow! Looks more like you dipped it in acid! I'd invest in a box of spray paint, clean the entire undercarraige and spray everything!

Hope the rest of the truck doesn't look like that! Have fun!

I'd also check everything else over. Start checking the rear of your frame to make sure you don't have more rust.

the back of the end rail on the same side had some surface rust, its odd the other side it totally clean including at the coil mount. I covered it all with some rust paint.. i am thinking it may have rusted inside the little mount, there was tons of mud built up and i don't know if any water was draining.

pretty upset now.. i had a lot of plans/mods for my rig but i'm worried about the longevity of it.
