Rust issue

Hello,

I have a 1997 3rd Gen with about 220K miles on it. It is a warrior and runs like a clock but we are have rust issue and recently my mechanic told me that the frame is rusting and it won't pass the state inspection for next year. Any idea how can I repair it? It is a great truck with manual transmission :driving: which I love and don't want to give up. I would appreciate any suggestion to save the truck.

Thanks

would help. But in general, rust is not unlike cancer. It starts locally yet can spread, dealt with sooner is best. On metal I suppose you could approach it a couple ways, 1-sand some off to see how deep it goes-how much worse could it be? 2) depending on what you find either sand down to metal, refinish with quality rust primer/paint or if really bad 3) cut the affected area off and replace-ouch!

I honestly was very ignorant towards rust and living in central texas thought all mnfgrs had solved the rust issue, apparently not. I remember when all cars rusted in the 60-70's then it stopped, I thought. Best of luck and update us with pics!

He most likely had frame rust near the rear LCA mounts. I just got done dealing with mine about a month ago. Cut it out, and weld new steel in it place. If you want to fix the problem, do NOT weld some steel over the rust.
