rustED's 87' 4runner Expedition Build

SEAT BOTTOM FRAME MOD

^^^welded in a brace

^^^cut off the frame on the other side of the brace, side by side comparison.

This brings my build up to it's current status, I still need to duplicate the above process on the driverside, then figure out the center section. I have a feeling the center is going to be the hardest, I'm probably going to have to narrow the cushions about 2"

nice fab work on the seats. looks good.

i like the exterior, that's a good 4runner color.

i'd be interested in the original rear seat headrests if you want to sell them.

Just a thought on what to do about the space between the new passenger seats.
Might be a good time to think about more storage space ---

Thanks! I still have the original seat headrest, as you can see in the above pics the fabric is pretty faded and in rough shape, but the foam is still in good shape. If you are still interested you can have them, just pay shipping.

The front seats were pretty much junk, but I kept all the plastic parts if anyone needs anything let me know.

Thanks for the link Riff Raff, that will give me some fresh ideas! I built my own lockable storge/armrest/cupholder for my 86' out of 14 gauge sheetmetal, was planning to build one for this, but don't really need armrests as my seats have fold down ones, but I could use extra storage and maybe a second cupholder!

Here's some pics of the one I built, I wrapped it I a canvass duck material similar to Carhartts.

Now that's just bad ass!

way nicer than the one i built out of an Ammo can in my 81..

one thing I found when i had the Montero seats in my 81 with arm rests that with the narrow cab the center console was about worthless due to clearance issues.

awesome job with those seats! I'm impressed!

Hey i could use some of those parts!
Headrests if other guy doesn't want them
Lumbar lever for driver side if you have it
and the passenger seat bracket, not sure if you are still using it. My slide lever is missing!

Thanks for the heads up. When I mounted the Honda seat on the frames I built, I moved them as close to the door as I could without it touching, so I gained a little width between the seats, hopefully I can build a wider than stock console. I will have to do some measuring and see how much clearance I have with the arm rests down.

Thanks, hopefully I will get the driverside back seat done this weekend.

If wallytoo doesn't want the headrest, then I'll let you know. I don't think I have the passenger slide lever my passenger seat was completely thrashed, the po had it pretty well Jimmy rigged, lol. Is the lumbar lever the one that reclines the seat back? If so I have that lever if you want it.

no the lever for the lower back support (lumbar) adjustment, not the seat recline. If you happen to find that pass seat bracket let me know. Thanks!

Mine didn't have any lumbar adjustment, must have been an option?
I will double check the passenger side seat, but I'm pretty sure there was nothing salvageable left on the seat frame, the handle underneath that allows the seat to slide forward was broke off and missing, and I removed the mounting brackets that bolt to the floor and used them to mount my new seats.

Exterior color options

My plan for the exterior (after fixing the rust issues) is going to be using Monsta-liner DYI bedliner.

Monstaliner do-it-yourself roll-on truck bed liner

My main reasons are cost, durability, and it's easy to apply, I can just roll it on. They also have more color options than other brands I've looked at. The link above shows the 40 different colors they have. I was leaning towards doing the body and topper white, and maybe mimic the SR5 stripes on the hood, fenders and rear quarters. But my wife and kids like some of the BRIGHTER colors, lol.

^^^PREDATOR GREEN WITH PYROCLACTIC GREY TOPPER AND SR5 STRIPES^^^

^^^SMURFADELIC BLUE WITH BLACK TOPPER AND SR5 STRIPES^^^

^^^This is one of my favorite colors, I think its called VooDoo Blue. With the black accents it really pops! The Smurfadelic above it is pretty close, but in some pics I've seen it looks a little more purple.

^^^DONT-YELL-AT-ME yellow WITH PYROCLACTIC grey TOPPER AND SR5 STRIPES

^^^TERQUILA TURQUOSE WITH PYROCLACTIC GREY TOPPER AND SR5 STRIPES^^^

^^^WHITE WITH WHITE TOPPER OR POSSIBLY PYROCLACTIC GREY TOPPER AND SR5 STRIPES

^^^My kids really like the "Predator Green" I'd go with black or "Pyroclastic" which is a really dark grey for the top and SR5 stripes. They also like the "Smurfadelic Blue", "Dont-yell-at-me Yellow", and "Terquila Tequose".What do you guys think???

**EDIT**
Monsta-liner was supposed to be coming out with 20+ new colors in April, I commented on their Facebook page and ask if they had any updates for when the new release date was, and they said to check back at the end of May.

^^^I'm really leaning towards the Smurfadelic Blue with the black top and stripes...all opinions, criticism, suggestions good or bad are welcome!!!

Also thinking of painting my SR5 alloys wheels black. Any special prep work that I should be aware of? What about paint, any recommendations?

That blue with the black looks awesome! That 4runner is sweet too!! Go for the blue!

i can't use the rear headrests. my rear seats are by Kustomfit, and the rod diameter is 3/8 inch instead of 10 mm, so the 10 mm ones you have won't work. let the other person have them.

That blue looks so sharp, think it'd look awesome on your rig! Thought about the blue with the dark grey top and stripes? Maybe some gunmetal on the wheels?

I agree, think that's what I'm going to go with, I think the owner of that 4runner is a member on here.

^^^I like that... I'll have to decide between the black or the dark grey, gunmetal on the wheels is a good idea!

^^^BLUE AND BLACK

^^^BLUE AND DARK GREY

Headrests if other guy doesn't want them

Those headrests are available if you're still interested in them.

I am soooo sick of the black bed liner look. My Tacoma's bed is faded and I'd hate to have a whole truck like that. I nosed around the Monstaliner site and it looks like a good product. There's a mega thread about it on IH8mud

Monstaliner Bedliner | IH8MUD Forum

I'm thinking it might be a good interior paint for my old boat.

They make a red "Lady In Red." Are you sick of red for your truck?

If you don't run the blue/grey color scheme I may have to place an order at the end of the summer[emoji14]
