Looking into getting one for the runner. Any change in mpgs? Advice on which one to get? pros/cons to adding one?

I think Volant is one of the best for the v8. Whatever you do, you'll want a dry filter, most come with an oiled filter (may have to buy this separate). I personally don't think they're worth the $$. The OEM intake is a true cold air intake, it pulls cold air from the fender. Every aftermarket "CAI" that I'm aware of, pulls hot air from the engine, thus it's technically not a CAI. Benefits are going to be negligible in performance/mpg increase. I chose to just do an AFE pro-dry filter in the stock intake. I'm not gonna say it made a huge difference, but it seems to run smoother and pull a little better in the mid-upper rpm range. MPG, mine varies too much to say for certain that there was any change.

:iagree: with ark! stick with OEM and a dry drop in filter and take out the HCF. An aftermarket CAI is not worth the three bills!

Agree with the previous. I got the Pro Dry Filter, later removed the Carbon filter. I also have a Magnaflow and I can stay in 5th for most of the Freeway hills here in So-Cal where before it would shift into 4th.

My intake air temps while cruising on the fwy/hwy's is about 5-8 degrees warmer than the outside air temp. I don't think any aftermarket CAI would perform better than that.

If you decide to pull the trigger, get one that you like to look at. That is about all you will get out of it other than some really cool sounds of the intake.

I removed the HCF a day after installing the new filter. My impressions posted above are after the filter and HCF.

Not only has my Volant CAI been a waste of money, but it also is causing the Check Engine codes to trip. My mechanic checked his machine and it is running too lean. The Toyota sensors are intended to be used with the OEM air intake.

Besides this the Volant does not increase my mileage and I do not notice any difference in power.

All in all I think I wasted $300 and will soon be going back to my OEM. Hey Swamp Rider, we talked about this back when I first got it. Do not waste your money!

Agreed with everyone above and also did the exact same thing as ARK man. I was getting 21.4mpg on my way to Atlanta doing between 70-76mph with a V8, HCF delete, and AFE dry air filter.

I had the K&N charger kit for a while. Didn't like the extra sound, no real diff in mpg. Went back to stock on V8.

ARK, whats the difference in the dry filter you have and the fram one i got at vatozone?

Is the Fram a dry filter? I've never used the Fram, not sure on the difference, Ford vs. Chevy I guess. The AFE is the one I've seen other using, that's what I went with. An oiled filter can cause problems, such as what rockwall had issues with.
