Sacramento Area Meet n Greet n Trail Run (Signal Peak) Sat. Sept. 2 2017

I think I'll make the Starbucks meeting, but I won't be able to tag along for the trail run. Looking forward to meeting some guys. The wife says I need some friends but we also have an 8 month old. Compromise.

Bummer I won't make the Starbucks meet in time. Hopefully you have a change of heart and hit the trails with us!

In full disclosure, I MAY be able to swing the trail. But I have ZERO off-roading experience and don't wanna be the wet blanket that holds up the show. I'm also hoping some guys I meet can at least predict if my ride is capable enough for this trail. I don't have much of a lift (1.5-2") and 2 open diffs. But I do have some sweet ass sliders. I don't know, we shall see what someone with more experience has to say about it. It at least has a sh!t load of power and killer tires... So I have that going for me.

No worries about going slow, more opportunities to take some sweet pictures. I feel like the sliders should be good enough to spot you through any sections that might get hectic but I've never been there so take what I say with a grain of salt on this one. I just really want to see that 2nd gen with the 3.4 swap.

Well I can't make any promises for the trail, like I said because of time. I'll be at the morning meet up tho 99% on that. I just know how the day needs to be dedicated and I just can't make that a for sure thing at the moment. I'm stoked to show it off haha. Nobody has seen mine. Plus it's supercharged so that just makes it a little more sweet.

You can always message me and we can swap phone numbers so we can touch base on your way back, worst case. I live in Vacaville so you could swing by after the trails on your way home if you wanted.

Were you at the Santa Cruz meet up a couple years ago? I wanna say you were

I'll be joining if I don't kill my rig on the Rubicon. Also would it be fine with you guys if my buddy in his jeep joins us?

Just looked at your build, and if it's up to date, your ride is going to hate you.
I went into the Ruby on same tire size, 3/3 lift and under armor, banged the shit out of it before getting to the granite drop off.

Signal Peak you should be ok.

Which side did you go from?

I am going with a group of friends in beater rigs, so their plan was really just to see how far my 4runner can make it from the Loon Lake side for shits and giggles, and then whenever body damages seem very likely, we'll bring my 4runner back to the staging area or somewhere close and I'll just hop into their rig.

Funny part is I only have stock armor and no sliders. Nonetheless, it should make for a fun weekend.

Same side.

This was couple winters ago, you could see the tops of the cobble rocks/large size above the snow. So picking the right lines wasn't the best ideal situations.
Was the stretch before the granite drop off.

Never touch my sliders, but armor and rear diff took hits.
Buddies always said I COULD make it through the trail as I sit at that time, just very slow.

33s is a challenge with armor is recommended as minimum, locker preferred.

I will make the Meetup at Starbucks...trying to get a work standby for Saturday afternoon to join trail group as well.

So I've watched about 8-10 different YouTube's of Signal Peak CA and maybe it's just the ignorance and novice 4wheeler in me, but I didn't see anything that looked very treacherous. Maybe because the trails are skinny? With loose rocks? All I know is that the videos make it seem pretty casual and calm by what my vivid imagination was working up.

Open diffs, small lift and sliders gonna cut for me guys?

Love Signal!

Have Fun, you guys!

This was from a couple weeks ago. Hope you guys get a light sprinkle to wet the trail. It was pretty dusty on the way out the next day.

Cool. Looking forward to meeting and seeing the rig. I've got a 6 y.o. and twin 4.5 y.o.'s ... so I know what you mean about compromising when it comes to family time vs play time...

If you can, make it happen! +1 on what Loud Runner said ... no worries about going slow. My T4R is my DD, so I am all about the right line and NO damage :biggrin2:

I did this trail/this route a while back before my sliders and armor; just had lift and tires with 2 open diff's and I made it. I have seen this trail rated as a medium...and think I would agree... it is more technical than FS roads (duh), but not the most difficult trail I've been on. There were some tight spots; a rock garden w/ lose rocks and some sizable rocks... but nothing "impossible". (Full disclosure... that was before this past winter, which could have changed the trail...)

Its hard to tell from the pictures in your gallery... but it looks like your runner has some clearance, good tires and sliders (which you said)... I would suspect that with good lines, maybe a little rock-stacking here and there, and some vehicle control, you could make it. If you have skids underneath (even factory), that would be better... but depending on your willingness to try, not necessarily a deal breaker.

If you're willing to try, I am willing (and I am sure some others would too) to spot and help you get up the trail. The view from the top is incredible and I think well worth the effort. A picture form the top, for inspiration...

Big ass reply

For sure man I got it. Appreciate the confidence. The wife actually said if I think I'll enjoy the trail I should try it since I've dumped ghastly amounts of time and money and rarely use it. Which is a huge waste. So pretty much no excuse besides bad vibes from others for holding up the show or whatever. But I gotta learn some time. And avoiding big damage is obviously right below getting hurt so I'd be willing to try it if ya'll think it'll make it when you see it. Only issue I'm seeing is that I put on a sorta dorky/sorta cool Crown Vic cop push bumper and that does affect my angles a bit. I guess just give me the honest opinion when you see it next Saturday and if you think it'll swing it, I'll trust you.

I'd say besides the rear diff/control arms I have about 12-14" overall clearance underneath at the worst spots. Seems substantial with spotters and such. And getting yanked out or tugged seems fun too.

Oh and I asked my other buddy who knows the area really well and he said to contact the forest department to make sure fires haven't shut the trail down.

Sounds like a bad time...

I got kind of lucky/unlucky.. 2 of my buddies rigs didn't work the night they were supposed to leave the bay so the trip got canceled.. Lucky since I can pick up some armor. Unlucky since I couldn't have fun on the rubicon. haha

Another guy I know did this over the weekend. Just a overnight trip.

Good idea. I will check for fires and what not later this week.
