This sounds like fun. I just bought a 2nd Gen, on 33s with a decent lift, sliders, fairly basic setup I think. I know nothing of this world. I may join because I've camped there a few times(going there again btw) and only herd about this trail before I had this truck.

I'm planning on camping out there because its long drive for me, just not familiar with that area. Can any one that's going point me in the right direction for somewhere to set up a tent for a night?

Sterling lake looks like its near Signal Peak. Anyone know if that is National Forest land?

Sounds good. If you're able to make it, let me know if we should look for you at the meet up place (Starbucks in Rocklin) or at the staging area at the trail head (39° 19' 53.9" N ; - 120° 34' 21.5" W)

[MENTION=80668]Loud Runner[/MENTION] There are a ton of options... some is NFS land... some private land w/ public use (e.g., PG&E). If you havent already, I'd suggest checking out the NFS website (https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/tahoe/recreation/camping-cabins) for campsites in the TNF.

From there, you can find details on all sorts of spots... For example, the exit road we will be taking down the backside basically dumps out at Indian Springs campground (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/tahoe/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=55506&actid=29). Its not likely to be viewed as the best campsite in the world... but it is close to staging /trail head and exit point and is easy to get to from HWY80.

Another resource is the PG&E website (Pacific Gas & Electric Online Reservations, Enrollments and Passes). I have stayed at a couple different PG&E sites over the years and they can be primitive (e.g., pit toilet/no water), but nice. I believe the campsite you're thinking of on Sterling Lake is PG&E; but Im not 100% sure.

I have a little travel one. Seems to work alright. I'll have it on hand. I'm new to off-roading, how much do we air down without bead locks? I normal run 35 psi on 32" BFG mud terrains.

I have a ViAir 400P that I will bring and can share with others if needed. Also, worst case scenario, I believe there is an air pump at the Chevron near by that could be used (not 100% sure though).

Depends on lots of factors... like wheel width/tire width... terrain you'll be traversing... vehicle weight... how much height you can "give up"... etc.

I have 275/65-18's (about a 32") on stock wheels and will probably air down to about 18 or 20 PSI. I'd suggest starting about there and adjusting as needed.

Yeah, I just (at 3:00 pm) checked Cal Fire and there were no fires in the area ... but there are a bunch up and down the state which is likely leading to the poor air quality.
