Sad Day!

I'm not a betting man but I would bet the new 4.6 would get the same gas mileage as the 4.0. It made the new GX (weighing over 5300 lbs.) the class leader in mileage. Why wouldn't you want an engine that produces approx 50 lbs more torque and gets the same mileage?

If I had to commute I would be driving that ATP Prius. It's like a little spaceship that runs on fumes!

Lexus GX460 EPA : 15/20/17 combined

Toyota 4runner EPA : 17/22/19 combined

They are pretty close...about 2 mpg difference. The GX uses Premium gas, while 4runner uses regular i think. A V8 in the 4runner Trail with Multi-mode 4wd may make sense. :naughty: Nah, just give me the damn Multi-mode 4wd with any engine and i will be happy! :driving:

Surprisingly NO, the air bags did not go off. When hitting the guard rail the right corner of the vehicle hit the rail first and then while spinning damaged the rest of the front end.

There was approx $10K worth of damage to the body (Front and back) and then the frame needed to be replaced. I would not accept a used frame, only new OEM. When replacing a frame there are allot of other parts that would also need to be replaced because of disassembling.

Off subject on your loss Koz, which I'm sorry to see.

Do you suppose the Bull Bar/Brush guard did not allow the airbags to deploy? I think the bags are suppose to deploy if the front end hit is within 45* angle of the front bumper and over 30 MPH. Just a thought.

Could be, but I have seen this happen several times with other Toyota vehicles. The impact has to be precise for the bags to activate. They even have different levels of deployment force depending on the type of impact. The bottom line is, my Wife did not get hurt yet the vehicle was totaled.

The airbags are based on accelerometers - nothing else. If there is enough deceleration they will deploy, if not, they wont. There are no 'crush' sensors in our cars. You can hit the guard rail at 80mph but if there is no sudden deceleration they will not deploy.

There are several sensors (Three if I’m not mistaken) that consult with a computer that determines if the air bag is deployed (including an accelerometer). Toyota also uses a single mechanical trigger in some of their vehicles (Located in the steering wheel).
