Sad Story About My 2004 Limited

Well, very sad, short life. My 04 Limited was stolen a few weeks back - recovered in less than optimum condition - see pics:

Now I am starting my search for a replacement. I will be getting an 05 with all the same options (I hope). I have a question already - is the Nav available with the 6 disk changer still? I have a dealer telling me 'no'.

Is there anything I should get or avoid if I order this to my spec?

Anyone want to give me prices on deals that you worked?

I think I want everything except DVD and the X-REAS - that's what the 04 had....

OK, if I answer the painful details we can talk about the 05 options later????

Here is what happened:
Wife is getting ready for work, takes a load out to the Runner, starts it up and heads back for our 1 yr old. As she is picking the kiddo up she hears it tear out of our driveway :awais:

This is in Sunnyvale Ca in a very nice and quiet neighborhood 2 blocks from a Police station. Been told by some that it's our stupid fault, some of that hits home but it will be a shame when none of our safe from people that have no respect for other peoples belongings.....

I was in the house, heard the yelling. My only thought was for the safety of our kid. While she has never been left out of reach in any circumsatnces the entire incident was too close to her and the wife being in the car (harms way). Tough lesson.

No word on the thieves. Note the burned pic - painted the truck black - I think they used it for a crime and burned it to get rid of evidence because nothing was stolen (you could still se the skeletons of the Nav, CD changer, etc....

I also add my condolences. On the brightside, the thief didn't decide to take the truck while your wife and/or kid was out there. If it were a couple minutes later, they could have been in danger.. At least they're safe.. Still sucks when people don't respect your belongings. I've had stuff stolen from me before, so I can kindof relate..

Wow...sorry about the truck. That pic is tough to see. As bad as that looks, it can be replaced. I'm happy your wife and baby are safe...that's the most important thing.

Sorry to hear about the 4R, but they are easy to replace compared to family members.

OK, back to the new 4R. My understanding is that you can add the disc changer with the Nav. It is a dealer added accesory. I believe the GX and the 4runner have basically similar Nav systems, although the packaging is completely different, but the GX with Nav has a 6 disc changer in the glovebox (where the 4Runner hidden compartment is). Try phoning some other dealers and see.

Are you planning on lifting the new 4R? I assume that is the reason why you dont want XREAS. If you plan on modding the suspension it will probably be best to get it as simple as possible.

Oh and get the curtain and side airbags, its a bargain at $400-500 for the extra protection.

If I had to buy my LTD again I would question getting the moonroof again. I really wish I had some extra headroom in mine.

OMG, that's terrible! Sorry for your loss. I'm glad your wife and your kid are okay.

No idea on the NAV with changer, but I would assume they still work. The new NAV doesn't seem to be all that different, only changed to an integrated unit but the auxiliary inputs should be the same. In theory, it should work, but I'm not too sure.

Any reason why you're not getting XREAS? Besides being horrible to locate in CA, most people think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

Well, to say, this incident was cause for a family meeting is a bit of an understatement. Cripe!

I am very happy to hear that your wife and child are 100% safe - I think I would have crapt my pants before I sprung into action if I heard my wife (don't have one) scream like that. You and your family are a VERY VERY fortunate.

I'm glad that the keys were in the ignition. Can you imagine if she was confronted by those individuals - vs. them just taking off in the truck. Cripe!

My condolences on the runner, may she rest in peace. Thankfully the important stuff (your family) was no harmed in any way (aside from watching your truck going down the street). Just remember, things can be replaced, people cannot....

That being said, I don't know of any changes electronically to the '05's that weren't in the '04's. It may not be factory orderable, but the changer sits on a harness that is in series with the original radio and Nav system. Shouldn't be an issue to have this dealer installed before you pick it up. I second Bulldog's option of the Side Air Bags. If I was doind this again, I would have special ordered those for my vehicle (or spent more time finding one on the lots with that option). XREAS, while it is nice to have, limits the modifications on the vehicle, and IMHO doesn't add a lot to someone who isn't racing around in their runner. Offroad, XREAS adds nothing except an additional point of failure (my opinion). Sunroof, I had one on all my vehicles in the past, not on my runner - and I don't miss it. I enjoy the extra headroom and stability from having a steel roof over my head.
