Def a joke. Thats one of the ebay Land Cruiser 80 series snorkels. I installed one of these back in the winter. Looks good, fits good, but noticeably lower MPG

For all of you who have the LC80 snorkel installed, how did you plumb the intake? I installed mine this previous weekend, but couldn't find any hose's big enough at Auto Zone or Advanced auto that would fit both the snorkel and the intake tube on the v8.

Should have come with a rubber tube, I trimmed that down and used it to connect both ends.

I did the same, but the rubber tube doesn't fit the air box on the v8, I think the v6 is different? The diameter of the airbox on the v8 is about 3.75 or 4, and the tube that comes with it is about 3.5 inches

Oh, yeah no airbox on the V6. I connected directly to the intake hose that was in the fender. You cut the end off and then connect to the tube.

I've installed 2 of these on the V6 and 1 on a V8 and the V8 was actually easier. You need to cut your fender back some with a sawzall and then heat the hose up and stretch it as much as you can and then lube it up and slip it over the intake tube of the airbox. It will work.

I did cut my fender back some, didn't think the hose would stretch enough even with the heat as it's so thick, but if you managed to get it on, i'll give it a try!

noticeably lower due to drag because of the non-perfect fit or the concept behind a snorkel? My understanding was a snorkel at the very least should not affect the MPGs, if anything, it's supposed to help!

The fit is 95% so that shouldn't affect the MPG. It's the design. If you look at the 5th gen 4runner or Tacoma snorkels, they are a lot bigger/fatter to get more air through. I spoke to an ARB rep about this once and he said they have to make them that big to not restrict airflow. So I guess my conclusion is that the LC80 snorkel is just a bit undersized and is choking the engine a bit. Both of my buddies who have also installed these saw a small hit in mpg.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. I want some 4th gen love already! Soon we might just be able to 3D print ourselves a snorkle faster than ARB will release one
anyone know the math to calculate how much air needs to be forced in to the 4th gen motors, V6/V8?
then you can mess with creating a mold and go from there....

I've been looking for years for a snorkel. Hadn't looked in probably 6 month so checked back to see if anyone had made one yet, still no go. I'm surprised no one has, there seems to be plenty of demand.
Someone had a good idea with the 3D printer, would have to be made in a few sections but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

My unprofessional opinion:
For easy math, measure the smallest cross-sectional area of the stock intake system and keep the custom system at least as large as that.
But since you are elongating the stock intake system and adding a few bends, it will make it more difficult for the engine to suck the air through. Will making the tubing larger or smaller help? Hard to say. Fluid mechanics can get very complicated. Easiest way for us novices is to try a few different designs and dyno test each one.

Just curious...has anyone tried to put a Tacoma one on? I don't know what Gen it would be in Tacoma years, maybe 3rd? But their fenders are kind of the same. I've seen where someone put a Taco front end on the 4Runner so I assume it would be "somewhat" close. Just a thought.
