Safari Snorkel confirms snorkel for 4th-gen coming

I've got a 2nd gen Tacoma and the fenders are different enough to cause an issue. I think the engine bay is actually bigger in the 4runner than the Tacoma, at least it feels like it when I work on the Tacoma vs the 4runner. The 3rd gen Tacoma completely changed the entire front end too. I highly doubt you'll find anything that's going to fit better than the LC80 snorkel. Even the 5th gen 4runner fenders are completely different curves.
 
Just a buyer beware kind of post..

I have had my TMS (ebay) snorkel for about a year so far with zero issues. I seen a post on another forum talking about the TMS snorkel saying there was small pin holes along the molding edge (I noticed these when I first got my snorkel but didn't think it was a flaw). Well I shined a flashlight through my factory air box and light did pass through these "pin holes" along the edge of my snorkel. So it will not be completely water tight. Guessing this is expected when you buy brand knock offs for cheap.

Just a quick update, other then that it has held up fine, although I have done no water crossings and now knowing my snorkel isn't water tight I feel like it's just a false sense of safety if a hole is too deep or for some reason I have to cross water. But it looks kinda cool.

1) This thread should probably be locked. At this point, it's pretty clear that Safari is NOT going to be producing a 4th Gen snorkel.

2) Do you think you could seal the holes somehow to make the TMS snorkel water-tight?

If the holes are really that small I'd suggest painting the snorkel with something like Krylon Fusion. You should be able to match the color of the plastic and I would bet that a few good coats will cover/fill any 'pin holes'. It will also give you a better finish on the snorkel that won't fade and hold dirt easily as the raw plastic. I used it on multiple sets of Jeep fender flares over the years and it worked great.

I thought about painting it with a bedliner paint to cover the holes. Im sure that would work. But not sure I feel like taking it off, painting it and put it back on for a small (maybe) improvement. I don't plan on crossing water that reaches the snorkel anyways, and if I did, I'm sure those small pin holes would be the least of the problems. As of now it's on there for looks and I have been thinking of getting rid of it and replacing the fender back to stock for a more cleaner look.

For less then $100 it's still a decent deal but I would coat it with something before you install it if your going for water tight.

I've been thinking of getting a different fender and different snorkel, hopefully something that doesn't stick out as much.

I haven't checked for holes in mine yet but I haven't ingested any water into the air filter housing either and I've been through some crazy down pours and deep crossings.
 
On Facebook, ARB are now saying they'll have Safari snorkels ready for our 4th gens in late spring/early summer....
I'm cautiously optimistic, I'll believe it when I see it.

Never going to happen. It was last spring/early summer last year when they said it would be released.

I don't think ARB going to manufacture them for the reason that Toyota didn't sell that many 4th Gens compared to the other generations and they were only produced for 6 years.

thats awesome - im really pumped about this because a lot of the wheeling i do involves some deep water. i want to extend my diff and tcase (or actuator) breathers down the road too
