Safari Snorkel releasing snorkel for 3rd-gen 4Runners

Seems like a lot of guys are just running the Tacoma one and honestly, how much better could the 3rd gen specific one fit? The Tacoma one isalready pretty damn good and super solid so that will probably be the route I go when I get one. That being said... I wouldn't be upset if ARB finally dropped a snorkel that fit even better for a little less dough

Looking to add this snorkel soon.

So, I thought that I was sure that I saw a product ad for this snorkel, (Part# ARB SS170HF), that said that it worked for BOTH the 95.5-04 Tacomas, as well as 96-02 4runners. I saw a pic that seemed to use a flex tubing to connect the main snorkel body to our, (at least 01-02 forward) air intake tubes.

I know that most people that go this route get the SS170HF snorkel and add a Tacoma air tube connector to connect (let's say) my 2002 short 90 degree air intake to the snorkel. I can't seem to find this link that said that is was for both vehicles anymore. Now it just seems like it says that it is offered for the Tacomas only... I mean, it's not the end of the world. I like this snorkel a bit more than the Amazon option. I have picked up some 35" tires that will have me removing the fender liners. This will expose the air intake. I figure that THIS would be a great time to add said snorkel.

Anyone go this route and have any input?

do it, you can get the tube on ebay, or from a wrecking yard or from the dealer or craiglist, but its needed to do the snorkel and worth it especially if you ware pulling the fender liners

I got the Safari Snorkel sitting a few feet away in my living room. I ordered the Tacoma Air Duct (#9 on the diagram) https://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/p...iteid=214329&vehicleid=457852&diagram=8510150 . Hopefully this portion will simply connect to the 4Runner portion of the duct and then connect to the Safari snorkel portion. I did research and discover some conflicting info listing #10 as the needed portion. But I am fairly confident that I just need the longer connecting duct. That should be here by the end of the week.

I already have the Tacoma whip antenna, so that should be one less thing to worry about. That, and I picked up a washer fluid relocation kit to get mounted and make some room on the passenger side.

So it turns out that you need part #5380735020.

The Camel Back Toyota diagram is WRONG! It listed the 90* knuckle, (#5281035010) as the correct part. This is incorrect.

You need part #5380735020 (for 2002 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 V6.)

Well the Safari Hilux 167 snorkel install went pretty smooth. I ended up using 3m double stick tape for the A pillar attachment instead of drilling in to the A pillar. I want to try a cyclone pre-cleaner now to see if the air intake tube collapses like others have reported.

So if you’re looking to put an actual Safari snorkel on your 3rd gen, it is possible. Cost was about $330 shipped to my house, but it did take quite a while to get here since there were none in the USA. I ordered it the end of November and it got here the end of February. Obviously it’s more expensive and takes longer to get here, so you have to decide for yourself if the added wait and expense is worth it. For me, I’m glad I did it, but only time will tell if it’s more durable than the Wotofojsi or Best Snorkel USA or whatever Chinese brands are on Amazon.
