Safe for brand new tires in the snow?

I currently have the stock OEM tires on my 4wd 4runner with 40k miles on the dash, but they still have decent tread left. Going up to Tahoe this weekend and I was planning to get new tires (Mich LTX M/S2), but am a bit worried about the break in period for new tires and I'm not sure how a brand new set will handle in snow. Does anyone know? Did a search, but couldn't find much on this. Thanks in advance.

Hey Huskymadness, I put those tire on my 4runner this past september. They have been great tires. I don't think you have to worry about the break in period, but then again I'm not a tire expert. If you're in the US and have had weather like me (74 degrees here in WI) your winter has been pretty mild and you might not have snow anymore this year. Either way I just wanted to chime in and say its a great tire.

Never really heard of such a thing. You'll be fine dude. Question as to how you came to decide on those tires?

The mold release agent on the actual tread should be gone within the first 10-15 miles. If you are really worried about it, spray the tires down with a degreaser and rinse.
As far as the Mich LTX MS/2, they are arguably the best on road suv all season performance tire out there.

Was reading about the break-in period to wear off the coating they put on the tires (so they don't stick to the mold), and just want to play it safe. I'll be driving from SF to Tahoe (in the rain though), so I'm thinking that should be enough to break it in.

mrpanic - Just as these guys are vouching, I've been doing research and it seems like these are the tires I want. Long life, good in wet/snow, comfortable ride. Lot of people on forums are loving these, and it has great reviews on tirerack. Was deciding between these and BFG AT (which I have on my CJ5), and road noise and comfort pushed me to the Michelins over the BFGs, and that I only go to the snow a handful of times during winter.

Again, appreciate the feedback.
