Safe removal of 3M adhesive tape

Anybody have suggestions on how to safely remove the 3M adhesive auto tape w/o hurting the paint/finish. Tape has only been on for about a week.

Maybe a hair dryer and denatured alcohol?

What about letting it get warn and then getting off what you can with dental floss, then trying the Goo-Be-Gone?

I seem to recall that's one technique used to debadge.

Oh, I'm not debadging. I have already done that. This is for the POS ventvisors that glue to the door. It is much more adhesive than a stinkin badge.

I've tried in-channel WeatherTech and now Lund with adhesive. Both products are nice ideas, but horrible application. Wasted $150 on POS plastic.

Oh, I'm not debadging. I have already done that. This is for the POS ventvisors that glue to the door. It is much more adhesive than a stinkin badge.

Best adhesive remover There is;

Disolve-it, it's a citrus based adhesive remover. It is only sold at Wal-mart. It's sold in the kitchen cleaner section. Completely safe on paint and to the touch, GREAT stuff!

This is going to sound crazy, and I don't know why I didn't think of this before -- but I've used olive oil with other adhesives and sticky stuff. Saturated the adhesive with olive oil, let it sit a bit, and the glue seems to come off. May take a couple of tries. Then, just any cleanser that can cut oil gets rid of the olive oil.

If you go this route, though, be careful not to get the cleanser on the truck since it could strip the wax.

Haha, just kidding. Thanks for the input, I'll probably let her sit in the sun and then use the dental floss. I'll try simple green, if that doesn't work I'll head to Wally's.

Too bad on the vent visors, I really get a soaking when the window is even slightly cracked open.

What was wrong with the visors?

I've had the WeatherTech for 2 weeks, like them so far.


Oh, and try tape to remove the adhesive. A heavy 3M masking tape should work great.

In-channel:
Auto up/down feature on window NEVER worked with the visor in place. Eventually, a rear visor fell out when I rolled down my window at the PO office. The car behind me rolled over the visor that had just fallen out.

Taped version:
Tape around mirror is pulling away from visor and vehicle. Already replaced tape once, now there is a gap between the visor and vehicle resulting in wind noise and sloppy appearing installation.

My rears have some adhesive on them.

My front works fine with the auto up.

How long ago did you have them? I'd contact WeatherTech and see if they have made any changes or updates, will offer an exchange. For $100 (twice what others cost), they better work perfect.

I have AutoVentshade brand and this is the 2nd set on my 2nd Runner and after two years on one and 10 months on my '99 neither has pulled away but I think eventually parts of the tape will pull away but if it's a few years away I'm not going to complain too much.
