Safety Connect is NOW Standard - We got 'jipped'!

For what it's worth, I went into a local dealership earlier today to find a T4R to scope out (that's another story) and on the lone SR5 was a window decal ID'ing that particular vehicle as equipped with Safety Connect.

BTW...that gray SR5 w/leather looked much sexier in person! :girl:

Ha I don't feel so bad now, I had the onstar guy come on one time too and it scared the crap out of me! :bluejump: I don't feel so bad now.

My SR5 does NOT have the Safety Connect and I am just fine with that, don't want it anyway.

Interesting, did you see if the sticker was correct and that it actually was installed?

Actually OnStar does use cell towers and not the big birds in the sky for communications. I've had two events and tried to contact OnStar through their system in the roof and could not get through. For one of them I had to walk four miles to a pay phone to call for help - my cell phone would not work either. When I called OnStar to cancel my service and they asked me why, I told them that there was very little cell coverage in my state (Arkansas), and so their service simply did not work in most places - they agreed, did not even argue, and refunded the remainder of my subscription.

Sorry - I stand corrected. Looked it up after I posted and was going to correct my information

From what I saw/remember of the inside of the SR5 it looked as if the switch to activate the system was there in the interior light pod as was the 'moon roof' switch. The interior light must've been in the 'off' position because when I opened the doors no lights came on at all, however, the electric seat was operable. I tried to read the sticker but the dealership lighting, combined with the tint on the window made that impossible. Looks like another field trip is warranted! :ybrick:

And no, I didn't ask either of the 2 salespeople that hovered nearby...I was awe struck! :wow:

BTW...the 'sticker' was a large decal (I guess so no one would miss it) located right next to the Malroney sticker on the passenger side.

I just received a letter today from Toyota saying that the free year of safety connect service that came with my 4Runner Limited that I took delivery of about a month ago was never activated by the dealer - so if I get it activated today I will only have 11 months left (it expires with the delivery date of the car). I've never had a worse car-buying experience than from this dealer, the largest in our state. Can't blame Toyota - at least they told me about it (cause they want me to renew after the free year is up of course, but it was still nice of them). So if you do get this included with your Toyota, be sure that your dealer activates it for you!

I found this on the Toyota web page. I've highlighted the pertinent info:

'...What is Safety Connect?

Safety Connect helps drivers stay secure on the road. Drivers can be in touch with our 24/7 response center at the touch of a button. In case of an accident, Safety Connect is like an added safety net. This service helps provide quick response and care from emergency service providers.

Safety Connect availability varies per equipped model. Not available on vehicles manufactured prior to fall 2009.

The following four safety and security features are available via Safety Connect. Subscription required. Please click on the buttons below for more information about each feature....'
