ZMW, see what I mean??

This 1engineer guy is one who certainly intelligent but traces rain drops on his windshield while he drives and finds them fascinating. Check the history. And yet he's built quite a following.

This is why I told you yesterday to just simply apologize!!

Apologize for not saying that the 5th Gen is the best vehicle you've ever, ever owned.

If not, you are a very bad, bad person.

HYSTERICAL!!

My question is did you get that way with or without steroids and did it affect your love of 5th Gen 4runners since you always bash them and don't even own one?........ The Truth About Professional Body Builders

http://www.isteroids.com/steroids/Effects of Steroids.html

I myself, like all generations of 4Runners and have personally almost completely taken a 3rd,4th and 5th Gen. completely apart and put it back together again just for the fun/love of it. I see no drop in build quality at all! I actually experienced it,how much mechanical work have you done on a 4Runner to see this drop in quality. I see you can't even change your own oil so I suspect, not much.

It is what it is... 1engineer can have his opinion he just doesn't want anyone else to have theirs. It insults him that I've had 30 cars in 10 years - who cares, nevermind that a significant number of them have been toyotas and a significant number of those have been 4runners. In fact the only thing that has turned me off to 4runners in general is attitudes like his.

It'd be one thing if I came in here and said car xyz was better, and 4runners suck! - none of which i've said, I was very specific about my complaints, very specific about why it wasn't right for *ME* and he continued to insist it's because I didn't do my home work or because I was some uneducated fool.

he still has an axe to grind apparently, so let him...

As for whoever asked the 1/4 mile - like nearly every supra owner, I have a 12 second supra on street tires, however I trap mid 140s. I have a hard time setting the car up for drag racing because I road race it just as much and the two are really mutually exclusive, I prefer road racing so the suspension is stiff, the sway bars are absurdly hard and I have a full BBK on all 4 wheels which makes finding drag radials or slicks a bit difficult. The car is no doubt capable of mid 9 second passes, I just don't have the traction or ability to drive that fast.

The other thread was obviously closed for a reason. Why would you stir the pot and re-open a thread they obviously wanted closed?

I kind of think you missed the point, it wasn't about your decision to trade in a "perfectly good" vehicle, it was more about starting a thread for it and then debating with people within the thread to justify your decision (to yourself). But, lets just leave it at that. I posted in the other one that you are entitled to do whatever you want with your money and its none of my business. Let's just nip this thread in the bud before it gets even worse than the original.

Harper,

I'm assuming you're not talking about me here, but It was very easy for me to see when I placed an 07 next to a 2011 where the quality was lacking, or rather than say lacking, was not the same. Saying it was lacking may not be fair because the quality is still better than most.

The interior materials for example seem to have been cut dramatically, and interior panel gaps specifically were no where near as tight. the carpet quality seems drastically reduced, etc - In all the 4runners I've owned, I have literally had ZERO servicable problems, not one that required dealer intervention that wasn't caused by myself - the 5th just happen to have required a replacement drivers seat, a replacement XM tuner, and replacement mirror as the LCD went out for the camera (I believe the last two were caused by the same incident, whatever that was because those 3 things all happened with in about 4 weeks)

Unlike most, I do nearly all my own work on all my cars with very few exceptions, I do my own oil changes (except on the GS430 where work pays for them), I rotate my own tires, I build my own 800hp monsters, I've had the head off more than one car in my garage, and at least 5 motors on motor stands that i can count off the top of my head.

I don't do this for a living, I'm an enthusiast, I've owned a ton of cars because it's what I like to do and what is fun for me, so again I'd say I came from a place of significant experience and knowledge prior to me making my decision to buy a 5th gen...

I appreciate a good conversation and even opposing views - what I don't appreciate is being called a Liar, or uneducated by someone who knows nothing about me, or what makes me tick... and guess what, there's more than one engineer on this forum - The difference is I don't need to convince anyone of it.

"perfectly good" is a fine description, I didn't say it wasn't good - what I said was it wasn't AS good as other 4unners we've owned - I don't need to justify my selling it to myself, but apparently you guys thing I do. I listed my experiences with it and some people took offense while insisting this is a lack of my doing my homework - which is simply not the case.

Because I respectfully have a problem with someone I don't know makes an executive decision to cease communications between humans on a public forum. That's not what this is about even if language gets a bit colorful.

I don't own one but damn near bought a Trail. Was giving it a ton of thought because I loved the way they look in silver and red. I loved it so much I was able to look past the difference in quality as I perceived it between the Trail and the 08 SR5 I owned. Until one day I drove the 07 Sport v8 I now own. After I drove it (and the dealer did give it to me to drive overnight) I was blown away, forgot the Trail, and traded in my 08 v6.

There you go assuming again.

I quoted JohnnyT and that was not an assumption but a straight up fact. Learn how posting in a forum works.

I have no problem with your opinions as they are just that.......your opinion.

o·pin·ion   [uh-pin-yuhn]
1.a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2.a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.

My opinion is your opinion is shallow and based on "looks like" and "seems" rather then fact and I'm entitled to that opinion.

Are we men or little girls here?

Guys, its the Mother F'ing Internet. You may have heard about it as its been in the papers. Please lets not take ourselves so seriously. A little harmless ribbing and maybe, just maybe a elbow thrown here or there does not a war make. Trust me, if I took it seriously every time I have been called stupid or ugly.......:gun6:

:iagree:

As much as Johnny, you say some ridiculous comments.

I have to agree with you on this one, it's a bit much to close a thread based on a biased take on a topic

All I have to say is *ding *ding :boxer:

Now we're making progress here. The love is shining through. We all just love talking, arguing, agreeing, disagreeing, sharing, helping, advising, and giving opinions about trucks. Nobody should be able to "close" that.

I truly hope you're right about the build quality Harper. After my lift I'm loving my truck and I'd like to keep her for a long time. However, I think you might be coming from a mechanical perspective.....the true working parts. I think ZMW is talking plastics, sheet metal, etc. There are things on my truck that make me worry how they might hold up years down the road....the headlamp lenses, for instance, seem thinner/ cheaper than on my old Taco. And they have that haze on them......annoying, but not s deal breaker by any means. The 4runner is still the only choice in it's segment,

And, the OP'S Perspective has to be a little skewed. How can you not be didappointed in s 4runner after owning several LC's/ LX's? That's like driving a Porsche then buying a Hyundai and complaining.
