sales of V8 4Runners dropping?

Last time I checked the 4Runner was classified as an SUV not a sports car. Pushing the 4Runner hard enough in the turns to come to the conclusion that it suffers from under steer is foolish and dangerous to your self and others on the road. With the higher center of gravity in this type of vehicle it was never intended to be pushed or driven in this manner. The Xreas suspension allows the 4Runner to handle better in the turns which does give you better control. But still it is not designed to be driven hard and fast in turns.

Perhaps you should do your self and others on the road a favor and purchase a sports car which has a more neutral balance and lower center of gravity so you don't kill any body through your reckless driving.

SUV's do have a higher propensity of roll over in this type of driving then cars do. It is clear through your comments that a SUV is not the correct choice for you.

My point exactly , thanks 007.

The point I was making is the one about mfgs wanting you to push and run into a tree or whatever your thoughts..........give it a rest !

Although my 4R handles excellent for what it is I would never push it like I do my Cobra. It would be a danger to myself and my passangers and others on the road. You really need to know more about this type of vehicle before you start making statements about hitting trees and things like that.

You just come on here as a new guy and start spouting off stupid info about the mfg and about you 4R handling or not handling like a sports car better or whatever than the v8.....blah , blah.

Wake up young man, this is an SUV/Truck.....There is no need to justify your V6 purchase to us what you bought and for what purpose , its a nice SUV , just enjoy it.

This is way off topic and paritally my fault for feeding into this crap story.....sorry mods. Time to close this thread....lol:D

When I received my MBA from Princeton, analogies were not a large part of the curriculum.

The fact that you purchased and owned an Isuzu Trooper for 10 years basically tells us you know nothing about advanced driving skills, and have no clue how to take a vehicle for a test drive. A knowledgeable person would have ran not walked away from that inferior vehicle. If you knew how to judge a vehicle's handling characteristics you never would have purchased that vehicle.

You have no business talking about under steer, over steer, or anything else regarding a vehicles ability to handle any given situation. The reason you never rolled that vehicle is because you never pushed it hard in the turns. Not a big shocker there.

And just what exactly is your reason for the constant barrage of accusations? You know nothing about me. But this is fun. Tell us something else that we don't know.

Yeah lets get back on topic gents. It's fascinating where you went to school or what you did/didn't learn but it doesn't move this topic along.

wow, such hostilities. relax. where's the hot chicks thread when you need it? lol

I thought of posting a pic to cool off those guys... But Jharris sounded to serious last time I started a pic thread. You know, don't bother the bosses, or else! :)

Anyway, I do think that issue of V6 vs V8 will never end, nor has a solid argument. Differences are so small in power/weight/fuel economy/price that is almost like saying what is better if black or mica... We all know is black :)

later guys... go drink a beer.

Right now gas prices are at a medium here atleast. About $2.15 or so per gallon. We all know this is for no apparent reason as it is when the prices go way up.

So what are we going to do when $3-4-5 per gallon come along ? And IMO it will only continue to increase.

What will be the answer, Not Hybrid , will it be I4 again , I4 TD , with V6 being the big gun.

Will we have to buy Rav4s and lift and 33's for decent econimical 4x4...j/k:D

Will the Suzuki Samari 4x4 types make a comeback but in an suv version.

If gas really does go up to $5.00/gallon, it will suck to have a go anywhere vehicle we can't afford to go anywhere with!!! I really hope I did not make a huge mistake purchasing this vehicle. If gas really does make the climb to those levels, driving will be the least of our worries. Just imagine how much everything from groceries to clothing will shoot up in cost. Shipping costs will skyrocket, and the economy will suffer. Gas goes up and the DOW goes down.

Lets cross our fingers that Toyota has plans to put that new 4.6L dual VVT-i in the 4Runner someday. Although it was developed for the 2007 Lexus LS 460, 380hp and 367 lb-ft would be nice! :D

I also heard that it is a lighter V8, too (not today's 215 lb premium over the V6).

What does this have to do with sales of the V8 engine dropping or the price of gas?

Good point....if it goes that high driving will be the least of the economical issue's , unless your in my catagory that drives 27k per year.

GM is banking on the full size 900 platform SUVs to pull them out of a hole. Ford rides on the trucks for their sales f150/f250/f350.

Although I'm sure V8 will be offered on some Toyota models , if gas went that high it would kill the 4R with the V8 in sales along with other vehcles, we'd all be in a world of hurt.

D-S, the 215 lbs is not going to make any difference in gas milage or sales of the v8 . I'm surprised its only 215 lbs, thought it would be way more than that with the difference in the block and add'l cylinders. By the way the other posts went I thought you were talking like it was an add'l 1000 lbs or something.

Besides the ~ 46% and 20% bump in HP and torque, respectivly, you should see a sizable bump in MPG, too. IMHO, 20-25%. Technology is good.

Regarding the 210 lbs (sorry, thought it was 215), that is 4.9% increase in vehicle curb weight. Nothing to sneeze at. Assuming a conservative weight balance of 55%F 45%R for the V6, that is 2376 lbs on the front tires and 1944 lbs on the rear. For the V8, the weight on the rear is ~ the same so the front tires see 2586, or 8.8% more.

Still googling for weight of the 4.6L dual VVT-i, but any savings helps. The 2009 redesign of the 4Runner will probably accomodate this new block.

Remember, the LS460 engine is a CAR engine...with torque peak of 4000 rpm (i think). This is NOT good for a truck/SUV with towing/off-roading potential.

Unlike some other manufacturers that mix car and truck engines together, Lexus/Toyota is pretty good at separating car and SUV/truck engine lines.

This V6/V8 mileage/benefits arguement has been done sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times.....compared in every aspect conceivable, and many others that have been invented on this very board, just to make the discussion longer and more irrelevant. Just seeing any title pertaining to anything that could possibly lead to this mess again (and again) makes me want to light myself on fire and jump out a fifth story window.
