Salvaging Supercharger Kit From Donor - What Do I Take?

I have been informed of a potential supercharger donor in a rural Oklahoma self-service salvage yard. Should this pan out, what all do I need to take off the donor truck to make sure I have everything needed to make the kit work with my 2000 and what tools do I need to remove them? Thanks.

Unless you want to fiiddle with removing parts all off the engine, ask how much to take the whole car...

Unfortunately, taking the entire vehicle is not an option. I have nowhere to put it and this particular yard, like many around this part of the country, is like a roach motel - once a car checks in, it doesn't check out save as a crushed flat ready for the smelter.

I don't mind spending a few hours ripping parts off the motor.

Supercharger
Tensioner
All the bolts holding the supercharger to the engine (don’t forget the really long one)
Vacuum lines off the supercharger (need the Plastic T whose name I can’t remember)

Like the previous post mentioned - mainly just those parts. If you could post a pic it would help identify if there are any valuable add ons to the setup you should grab too. Otherwise I would buy all new hoses and T fittings so as to reduce potential headaches post-install.

Good luck with it!

For tools you just need a metric ratchet set. Some extensions. If you want the belt, ratcheting wrenches for the adjustment bolts of the power steering pump etc. If they cut the timing belt plastic guard, grab that too. Oh, and the throttle body gasket.... that’s a different shape than the stock one. Take a pic prior to dismantling to help you with installation too. Make sure you take and label all the bolts that you remove, as they are different than the stock bolts. Hope that helps. Read the install instructions and that will help you source all the parts you need.

Id vote for identifying 1st gen vs. 2nd gen charger first. Then, check out the oem/magnusen/diy install guides online, and reverse engineer, or disassemble from there.

If you watch the video infamousRNR and I made of installing a supercharger on a Toyota 3.4 liter engine, you'll see what's involved and the parts you should grab off the donor vehicle. Make sure to check out the video description and pinned comment for more helpful info. nc-grayson mentioned examining the Magnuson install instructions and we have a link to that document as well as the TRD instructions. Good Luck!

The potential donor turned out to be missing everything of interest - however, there's a lot of 4Runners trickling into yards in my area so it's entirely possible that another opportunity may appear.

Getting to a 3rd Gen 4runner at a wrecking yard with the Supercharger still on would be like winning the lottery. It could happen, but more than likely the employees of the yard will have already set up there pals with the knowledge that something of interest just arrived and they need to get down there to thoroughly rape the engine of those desirable parts.

That's actually not the case at many of the yards here. Instead, these yards publish their inventory online as it gets set out and there are people who make a point of heading down to check out items that could be of interest. The end result isn't much different, of course.

This is how I got my SC I found it on a junked 4Runner down in Bakersfield. I was there looking for a sun visor clip and found it. I had to haul ass home to get all my tools and get back so I could get everything.

If you check page 207 of the SC thread you can read through my experience with what to do and what you need when dealing with an unproven SC.

Did you get it?

Good advice in this thread!

Also have a look at the MAF to see if it's upgraded and take it with you if so.
Maybe see if there are any fueling upgrades on the truck as well (voltage booster, or bigger injectors- Probably unlikely if this blower has the OEM pulley on it)

Have you been watching the local PickNPulls? Haven't seen a SC come through but i made a run to south dallas yesterday for tensioner bolts and a couple vac lines and was pretty surprised with how much was left of the 96 4x4 they have. the intake manifold was gone but it had almost everything else and had been there over 2 weeks. I started checking their inventory almost daily, just in case.
I'd love to find a SC to throw on this fresh motor.

No, the hood and anything resembling a blower was gone by the time I got there.

Yup, been keeping an eye on those for sure. I was just at PNP Dallas South and South Central scouting them over the weekend. Thinking about getting a spare rear axle to rebuild ahead of time, waiting for answers here on interchangeability before I go pull one.
