Im really liking the Sirius radio, havent use regular radio since.
 
I listen to a local radio show in the mornining. Other than that its my ipod and podcasts or music. I dont really feel the need to pay for satelite radio.
 
I'd like to do a "stealth" mount for my sirius unit. I am thinking of:

1) fold forward center console spot
2) fold down overhead console sunglasses spot
3) inside arm rest.

These might be easier if the unit then had the remote control.

Alex, have you settled on a location? I got the stratus unit for xmas, but the DC plug is defective, so since I will exchange it anyway I want to pick the unit that will suit the install the best. The black "radar dedector" (sirius one I think) model might be good for its 1 line edge-display and direct plug ins. It doesn't depend on a docking station like many models do.

For current users: how important is the display? how useful is a remote? I don't want to compromise my driving by looking for/at small buttons on a unit like this.

another possibility might be building the unit into the center console area, perhaps right in front of the cupholders...not sure if the display would be easily visible, but I know there is "space" in many areas of that consol. An area could be cut-out and made to look integrated. However, this would be high visibility for thieves.

I set myself to XM Radio. Installed the unit behind the shifter.
I'm out for holidays, so if you interested in images, you'd have to wait til mid January.

The fold out part of the armrest console is VERY thin. See my sig. You really can't fit much in there. It would be a cool install though.

I think the display is VERY useful. I have the 5 line and I wish it had 10 lines. If I get into an accident with the 4R, it won't be because I'm on the phone, it will be because I'm looking at my Sirius receiver. I'm always surfing around - the remote control is too small, but I still use it anyway.

I think your #1 install idea would look sweet.
 
Before you settle on a location, try it out both day and night. I have the Sirius Sportster, and even though you can adjust the brightness of the display, it doesn't affect the controls which still put out a good amount of light. I would not want it directly in my field of view at night.

I never found the remote to be of much value while driving. My head unit has a remote too and I never use it either. Might be useful if you want a passenger in the back seat to control what you listen to.

My coworker's got XM and we use his online account for music, better than CDs or regular radio--a lot more variety. The channel tend to play the top hits, typically R&B, some pop, hip-hop, and alternative genres that are remixes of the orginal song. The songs sound very close to the original, but there's a slight difference in the beats. I think it's channel 304 online. I'll double check the next time I'm at his location.
 
I have xm in my 4runner and i had sirius in my scion. The sirius was free for 9 mos when i got the xb. Since i had both I got a pretty good comparison of the two services. First thing I noticed was the signal cut out with sirius way more then with xm. I also like the song selection of the xm channels more then the sirius channels. As far as their premium channels i never used them. I don;t care about listening to Howard Stern or Oprah, and I like my local stations for baseball and football.

I guess you won;t have much to worry about since they are combining into one service.

Digging up an older thread here. Got a lot of good looking installs out there. I'll be taking my Sirius out of the Titan and installing it into my 4Runner and have no idea where I want to put it.

Hey AlexJet, any chance you could post a pic of where you installed yours at?
 
I have Sirius coming in through a Pioneer AVIC-N3 and I love it. Subscriber for nearly 2 years now and I can't imagine going without it now.

I drive a lot and for long trips, it's unbeatable. No more channel surfing! :)
 
I have XM and using a Inno portable. I have not yet completed the runner install but almost there....

I have a Sirius Sportster Replay that I have subscribed to fro 2 years. Can't imagine life without it. I use it in the car on the way to work and then take it out of its holder and bring it into work at my desk boombox. All day Stern and music. I have mine installed directing into the HU and have the wires come out of the center speaker on the dash. I'll try to post pics when I get a chance. My next Runner will have it fully integrated into the HU as its now available I believe.
 
As for the guy who posted with a Pioneer Inno XM portable unit. Mine came w/ a remote that you can use to control it almost as good as presets.

I am selling my INNO and all the accesories that came with it. I just ended a year subscription and was happy with them BUT I dont want to add any stereo equip to my 4runner now I wanna keep it stock (except for speaker upgrade maybe)

Willing to trade for a cargo cover w/ all mounting brackets in the Tan for a 99.

Got too many things I wanna do to 4runner radio is low on priority's now
