Satoshi grilles aren't just for looks or are they?

Since this thread is already wayyyy OT. Beware of that dead bat. A lot of them carry rabbies. Perhaps that pic is way old and none of this applies... You could be exposed without even a noticable or deep cut. If you touched it with your bare hands I'd get it tested. Rabbies is no joke. Most leathal virus on the planet and at first sign of symptoms its too late.

haha, thanks, I've been a dog owner my whole life so I'm familiar with rabies. The pic is from 2015. I'd dont think I'm rabid yet but I do drool a lot when I sleep. :becky:

Another satashi hater here. Never was a huge fan of the look and been thinking of upgrading to the later year grill. I would also think it would hinder air flow compared to the open design of the stock grill.

I really wish i could get a TRD pro style grill for our rigs.

I hate to be that guy, but only one of those two grilles is a Satoshi style grille. The other one is just a very nice modified grille.

Satoshi refers to a user named Satoshi who was on Yotatech about 10 years ago. He is credited with making this *exact* mod. I doubt he was the first human ever but he was the one every named it after.

My point is that ONLY the grille with the older FJ style TOYOTA oem emblem is the Satoshi grille. The others are not. They are just cool custom grilles.

And if you want to be even more picky, neither of the two you posted have the actual OEM FJ TOYOTA badge, so neither are 100% Satoshi.

Correct, has been done before, many times. My 2000 Sentra had it about 15 years ago. Regrettably, No pics so no proof Sorry!

Who the hell is Satoshi anyway and why do some many people waste time on this mod? Is it to look cool while you're mall crawling?

Same reason why some people will watch a video of a guy go on for an hour about how to change motor oil rather than just go out in the garage and figure it out for themselves in less time.

Personal preference, I guess.

AxleIke has his own version of the Satoshi grille that looks like the old 1st gen 4Runner grilles. I’ve always liked it — best looking rendition of this mod I think.

I like the Satoshi look and think they are ideal if you want to add lights behind the grille but to each their own. The only stock 3rd gen grille that I like is the 01-02 color matched but I recently I stumbled across a 1st gen Tacoma with an FJ80 stock grille retrofitted into it. I bet the 3rd gen T4R could rock it and make it look just as good or better. It actually reminds me of a newer Tacoma grille from the 2nd gen TRD Pro. I may just end up doing this myself if I can find the motivation.
