having lurked the piss out of this site for the last month, i finally ordered some 2.0 saws for the front and the ivd setup for the rear today. plan on installing myself this weekend if they arrive in time. will post pics when complete.

anybody who has done this before: did you inadvertently break anything or screw something up that required a trip to the dealer to buy a new part? i have done a spring/strut install before, but not for my 4runner and i still cant find a haynes manual. usually, when i try to fix something thats not broken..well, you know how that goes.....anyway, just looking for some been there, done that advice.

installed. pics to follow. just got to get my wheels/tires put on later this week.

ivd rear end lifted as advertised: 2.25 on both sides which should settle to 2.
sway away coilovers actually lifted 4 inches initially but have since settled to about 3.25. the sheet said they were factory preset between 2 and 2.5. i have a v6 so maybe the less weight is allowing them to sit higher.

lessons learned - bottle jack is your friend...tie rod nuts are a pain....the rear shocks are a pain to install b/c the nut that holds them to the top is practically hidden by the wheel well.....adjusting coilovers is not a very easy thing to do.

did it all by myself and it probably took about 6 hours but i went slow and took a few breaks.

Welcome aboard, webe! I am looking forward to the pics of the new setup. What type of riding do you plan on doing? Just curious, why did you choose saw's up front and icons in the back?

b/c wheelers said the rear saw springs end up settling to 1.5 inches. i'm only going to stuff 275/70s on some 0 offset wheels, so i should havent have to do much trimming if any at all, but i tow a boat, and if i ever move up to 285s, i dont think i could have the rear end loaded with gear, a boat in tow and only 1.5 inches of lift with 285s. also, the saw shocks are more than double the price of the ivds. yes theyre rebuildable but i figured it would take about 2 rebuilds to equal the cost of 3 new ivd pairs(and how much difference could there really be). for the coilovers, the saws were cheaper, just as good, and wheelers said there is no difference in the ride. i got the 2.5 even though i wrote 2.0s earlier in the post.

heres your mental pic: i have a set of pro comp 17 inch alloys that are black with a silver lip, crome center cap, and crome lugs and i'm going to put, i think, some gy sa's on with the blackwall showing. the truck is an 05 in silver and i just had the front tint redone to match the back windows. the truck is going to look so sweet.

Nice, let me know how the setup works for you. I am days away from ordering co's and a rear lift, but first I need to do work on the wifes car, need ball joints and wheel bearings. It took a beating from the frost heaves and potholes this winter.

From all my research, the Icon front co's use a different valving from the SAW's but, I learned SAW has changed the piston recently. I think they tweaked it for better on-road ride. My only other concern is corrosion. I understand the Icons can be ordered with a coating to prevent the bodies from oxidizing. I am trying to find out if all SAW's have been treated.

good luck man...i went opposite as you...Donahoe up front with Swayaway 2.0 rear shocks and Donahoe springs out back...rides great. When installing, just be careful with the threading on the tie rod end...i slightly stripped mine and had to spend $30 plus and extra day for the part to come in...but other than that, very straight forward... My Xreas was trashed afterwards because i didnt have the patience to take it out nicely!

finished product.
