SAW vs Icon vs Toyotec

cant decide on wich one is right for me. do they all offer the same lift? what ride is the best? which is the most reliable?

I have to say sway away's. But that's because I have them. The ride is amazing. They are stiffer than stock but very good. Icon basically is the same as sway away. But are black and only come in 2.5. Wich cost more. Toytech is completely different. Coilovers are they best option if you ask me. And I believe king makes one too. Its for a tacoma but fits. But the kings have the shortest travel. Go with sway aways and you will never look back

What I did is put on SAW front coilovers, SAW rear springs, but I put Icon rear shocks. The problem with the SAW rear shocks is that they take so much to compress, that they will kill you on sudden compressions, like speed bumps, road bumps, etc. They just aren't able to compress with small obstacles do to their size.

For lift height, both Icon and SAW coilovers are adjustable to whatever height you want.

I cant comment on the ride quaility of sway-aways or ICONS, I can comment on the Toytecs.
Ive had them on my 99, for about almost 3 years, LOVED them, rode so much better than staock on the street, and was AWESOME on the trail.
Now that I have the 04, I went with Toytec again, for the same reasons, Im extreamly happy with the Toytec products, shipping is VERY fast, and Customer Service, well lets just say that, Toyteclifts KNOWS what customer service is, price is very competitive.
BTW toyteclifts does sell the ICONS also

Major difference between SAW / ICON and Toytec is the SAW / ICONs are rebuildable. I've been very happy with my SAWs.

thats true, but depending on where you live, with the road salt, dirt, grime, snow, water etc, can make them very hard to rebuild, I know that Slee off road doesnt even sell the sway aways anymore, for that simple fact. thats from Christo himself.
With the toytec, the shocks are Bilsteins. :bigok:

I have the Toytecs, been on only for a couple months but absolutely love them. As stated above the major difference is the rebuild quality of the ICON / SAW vs the replaceable bilstiens that come with Toytec.

I'd have to say for the price comparison; unless your 4R is purely for off-road, I would go with the Toytecs - IMO. Plus it's not like the billies are crap; my 2 cents.

if they are the adjustable coil-overs you looking at 0-3.5 of lift hence "adjustable"

correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I believe for our 4th gens the published clearance is 9.5"...if this is the case, then in my head that translates into 9.5" to 13" of clearance depending on what you adjust them to. Hope that helps..., oh and maybe someone here who has this set up can fill us in but I think if you max them out you may cause problems with the CV's(?)...sorry not sure if this is the correct part...:bash:

I had Toytec's on my 06 taco LB DC 4x4 and I loved em I am thinking about getting the ultimate toytec setup down the road. I was looking at the Donahoe Racing coilovers too, they are 3.5" also. Only thing I dont really like about the bilstein/toytec setup is its red haha I would prefer a black/silver setup. I like the Icon upper control arms a lot too.

As far as the ground clearance that is not adjusted too much by the coilovers, that is more a tire thing. Yeah on one hand the skid plates and such are a litttle higher up front but the rear pumpkin is still at the same spot regardless of suspension setup. The suspension sitting higher just gives more room for larger tires which are going to give you the ground clearance increase.

And if you do raise to 3.5" and the angle is high on the CV shafts than you can always get the diff drop from Toytec which I believe drops the diff 1"

OME isn't adjustable and you have to choose which stiffness you want for your rig before you purchase. There are different stiffness levels depending on if your truck is relatively stock, or if it has bumpers, winch, etc.

but performance wise, once I get my rig setup, I will have the same flex/ articulation with either lift? I will just not have the option of changing the "amount" of lift?

That depends on the stiffness, but generally speaking yes. Here is a picture of my truck flexing in the back when I still had the OME.

If you don't plan on adding a bumper and winch later on then OME will suffice for your needs. But if you think you might get those items, then coilovers are a smart choice because all you have to do is crank them a little to compensate for the added weight.
