I use a ram mount with charge cord to lighter.
As far as security you can pop the phone out of cradle and throw in center console in about the same time it takes to remove your keys from ignition.

You have to remove keys from the ignition? :rofl: I don't even take my phone or keys out of my pocket!
(Kidding of course but I have a LE with push button, personally the dedicated scan gauge is my preference, but I definitely see the positives of the phone approach)

Battery never died in my key and left me stranded, but I definitely see why they're used by people less likely to be in remote areas.
Like the Scan Gauge, these other devices can be a permanent install. Can't remember his name, but one member used a Nexus 7, hard wired power to suction cup mount next to a-pillar.

Actually you can still start it with a dead remote battery, you hold it against the button and press, learned that one the hard way! I knew the battery was dying a week or so before it did as the handle sensors weren't responding well and it got worse. There is also a metal key for opening the door. Easy peasy.
It's like heated seats, you don't know what you are missing until you have it, then you wonder how you lived without it. (Colorado winters and all...)

I may be a little paranoid but any wireless communication device that attaches to the OBDII port makes me nervous.

Anybody have the code for the ScanGauge Trans Temp for the 5th Gens?
I am going to start trying to get the UltraGauge to read the trans temp. A guy over on Tacoma World was able to crack it for the 2nd Gen Tacomas so I am going to see what he can do for the 5th Gens or if he will guide me.
