ScanGuage II Trans Temp X Guage?

I have an '11 4runner.

I got a ScanGuage II last week and tried to get the Trans Temp X Guage, TFT, to work, but it only shows - 40 TFT on the screen.

Has anyone with more experience with this tool got the trans temp to work? Did I make an error in the input or does this simply not work and is hopeless?

it says on their site that you need at least firmware 4.0 or better for it to work.

Initially, I didn't have a printer and I had my assistant hand write the code. :biggrin2: I re-checked in the truck with a printout today and there was an error. :frisky:

Get a blend mount from eBay. Mounts right under the rearview. I find myself looking at the sgII more than the gauge cluster..

On the 5th Gens ,the ScanGauge fits perfect right under the oem gauges if you have the steering wheel in the down position and it plugs in the OBDII port right under there.I think you can change the brightness and background color but the orange is a near perfect match for the oem orange .

Mine has firmware 3.10 so I need to send it in to update the firmware to the latest 4.xx to be able to read the tranny temps.They charge $25 for the upgrade.

I have mine in the same position as harper. Super easy install and perfect position. I just ran a coat hanger through the hole, taped the cable on and pulled it up. Then used the velcro pads.

What trans temperatures are you guys seeing? Also please note ambient temp and driving conditions.

Since I have got it working the most I have seen is 150 degrees on short trips. It about 80 here right now. I do have a B&M cooler installed.

Does anyone know where the x guage temp is taken? Any information on its accuracy?

FWIW, I got mine up to 185 the other day in stop and go driving. Made me really think about adding an additional cooler.

Just ordered this rather than ordering a separate trans temp gauge. What did you need to do to get it to work, or was it just not set up correctly?

Just print off the code and enter carefully. It will work. First time I did it was on scratch paper from a hotel room. No surprise there was an error. It is easy.

Installed this right under the center console "cubby". Had to drill a hole in the back of the storage cubby to run the wire, but I like where it ended up. The red was a decent match to the other interior lights, but was next to impossible to see the numbers at night so I changed it to green. The features of this unit are fantastic, I will probably get another one for my wife's car so she can see realtime how much her aimless trips cost us in fuel. :bash:

Any updates re trans temp with ScanGauge II XGauge?

This thread hasn't had much activity for a few months, and I am wondering if there is any updated information available. I've spent some time e-mailing back and forth with with the folks at ScanGauge regarding XGauge and trans temp display. What they're ultimately saying is that if the factory trans temp indicator is simply a wire that goes from the sensor to the idiot light, then there is no way that ScanGauge II can display trans temp, which is only reasonable since in that case the OBD connector wouldn't have any idea about the trans temp. On the other hand, if the trans temp interfaces with the ECU on the way to the idiot light, then XGauge ***might*** display the trans temp ok. Ultimately, will only say "Unfortunately, we do not know if your vehicle will report transmission temperature". So, it was good to see the positive reports from you guys in this 5th-gen-specific thread. My question is whether you guys that have it displaying trans temp are still satisfied that it works correctly, that you're not blowing fuses or something, and it doesn't seem to have screwed up anything else that you know of. The Ultra-Gauge product has some nice features like multiple display screens that it sequences through, out-of-range alarms, and it's $100 cheaper than ScanGauge, but they are apparently not going to implement trans temp. ScanGauge will apparently only show a total 4 gauges at a time, but having trans temp and coolant temp with real numbers on it (not just C and H) would sure be nice. So, to flog the dead horse a little longer, are you guys that have gone with ScanGauge for trans temp still happy that you did so? Thanks for the input.

call me Igor, as i dig this one up from the dead, but i have a follow-up question for those also monitoring transmission temps with their ScanGauge II. mine was recently repaired/reprogrammed due to some weird display issues. it works fine, but when i reprogrammed the XGauge, i found that only one tranny temp code would work. i also tried the other two codes (on the ScanGauge site) but neither reports any values. the following code works for me:

07E02182 046105820000 3808 00090005FFD8

according to this post on the FJ forum, the code above is believed to be the torque converter; it works for me. the one below is purported to be the pan temp; does not work for me:

07E02182 046105820000 2808 00090005FFD8

finally, there's another alternate code, which does not work for me either:

07E021D9 032180000000 2810 00070064FE70

before the repair, i believe i had a different, older code programmed into the unit, but that was deleted when it was repaired/reprogrammed.

what code(s) are you guys using? anybody using multiple codes and getting multiple (and different) readings?

If I wasn't on my iPod I'd point you to the link on the "supercharger" thread. We had a decent discussion going on there regarding scan gauge transmission temp codes.

I've been running a scan gauge and trans cooler for over a year now and until a few weeks ago was only monitoring convertor temps. I added pan temps since then.

I meant to add that on my trip from San Diego to Vegas this past weekend pan temps were consistently 20-25 degrees less than convertor temps when there was a heavy load on the truck. (TCT showed 220 and TPT read 200). Conditions included sustained uphills, headwinds and ambient temps of ~80.

Just tried it, and...It works for me!

Man I LOVE this forum. Biggest complaint I had with the Scanguage tranny temp was that is fluctuates so rapidly (when read at the converter) which IMO is less useful than the temp of the fluid in the pan. Now I have the option of both!

Thanks guys! Here's a pic- bottom left number shows the reading at the converter as I revved the engine in "D" with the brakes on. Notice the temp spike, which went from 75 to 91 in about 3 seconds. Bottom right shows the fluid temp in the pan. Much more consistent.
