School Engineering Project

Lucky you guys, ( [MENTION=99886]jeff88[/MENTION] ) I actually got the program on my home laptop so I was able to open it up and get some pictures. The cup holders are just under 4" wide. I could go wider but then it gets bigger, what do you guys prefer? Maybe offer a 4" wide version and a 5" version? Anyways here she is...




Let me know what you guys think. I just noticed that I put "cub" instead of "cup" on the saved file in the program, its been a long day. :hiding:

Would it really matter to have that extra inch? Is it going to change the actual cup holders or just the overall size? If it doesn't do anything "extra", then I would say go as small as possible while still maintaining full integrity.

What size are the cup holders themselves? Would they fit a standard 20 oz. cup from the local fast food place? Or would they be big enough for a Super Ultra Galaxy Big Gulp?

Since your re-designing again, have you thought about adding some sort of spring operated arms to allow for smaller cups (e.g. soda cans)?

The cup holders themselves are 4" that's what I was talking about. By adding another inch the cup holders would be another 1" wider, therefor you could fit a much larger cup in them. Cups like these only have about a 3-3.25" base but increase in size as they go up, so they should fit snug in a 4" holder. That's is a large tervis tumbler.

I'm not sure about Super Ultra Galaxy Big Gulp because I don't know the diameter of the bottom. If some has one laying around and could measure it quickly, that would be a great help. I may look into something like that so that a normal water bottle doesn't fly around inside the holder, as it's obviously not 4" wide. That is something I could work on once I got it 3D printed and could actually put springs and etc. in different places to see what works best. Thanks for all the ideas Jeff.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the overall size being 4 or 5 inches. Now I understand. I think 5" would be too big. What if you taper the cup holder? 4" at the top tapered down to 3.25 or whatever a soda can is.

I think I'm going to keep it at 4". As for the 3D printer, supposedly the people to fix it were called yesterday. Hopefully I'll be able to get something printed by the end of the week.
 
So how does passenger sit in the seat when drinks are installed? Unless I missed that. LOL, seems pretty close to under the leg. I see you say in OP it wont affect leg room. I dont see how thats possible.
 
When the driver is sitting in the seat, their leg would go right over it. Once I get it mounted I'll post plenty of pictures. Plus if you aren't using it, you can just remove it.

Ahh, removable!

I sub'd this one just in case my own cup holder mod goes south. I'm working on creating one on top of the center console that will replace the lid and will flip over when not in use so you can still use it as an armrest.

Very nice. We have 2 3D printers that we use in class. Markforged and Prusa are what we use. We also draw them up in Solidworks and Fusion360. We then use Mastercam to get out programs to use on the CNC machines. Most of my projects were made for my truck. I bought a 3D printed cup holders for my front and back of my truck a long time ago. Good job brotha!
