I actually went with the normal P rated... Decided that ride comfort for the wife and our child who is arriving soon was a priority. I have experienced no mpg drop even with the more aggressive tread. Still no response from Pepboys.

3 MONTH UPDATE
So first off I finally got a hold of the area manager for the Pepboys store that caused all the headaches. He ended up sending me a letter worth $100 for products or service at Pepboys. Ended up using part of it on a Christmas present for my step father-in-law, and the leftover on some ratchet straps for my hitch cargo tray. In the future I will most likely use Pepboys to price match and then go to Discount Tire.
First thing I would say is I wish I went with 275's... they weren't necessary but from a purely visual perspective I think they would have given a better look without the headaches of 285's on a street vehicle that is limited to forest access roads and Chicagoland potholes and snow.
Overall happy with the purchase, we recently got about a foot of snow with more in the forecast and the 4Runner got the job done with multiple trips through unplowed roads. Never had a moment where it felt squirrely.

So I'm starting to learn a little bit about AT tires. And what kind of confuses me is that with LT rated tires they are exempt from UTQC ratings. How are you supposed to know what kind of expected tread wear you will get without the ratings?
I'm already kind of looking ahead to replacing my stock Dueler HT's and was discovering that with LT tires like the KO2 there is no easy way to compare tread life.
I would hate to get a set of tires that wear out in 30,000 miles, that's not even 2 years for me. What kind of life can you expect from LT AT tires with 90% plus highway?
