School me on lifting and what tires.

Hey guys, I was a lurker here for a while and i ended up giving the Runner back to my dad and getting a 06 wrangler for myself. I just bought a lift and tires for my jeep and my dad wants to do the same for the 4runner now. I can't help him because i only know about jeeps haha.


I guess our budget would be about 3-4k bucks.

What can i do with that money to make the 4runner capable and look good?

It's a 97 4runner SR5 with the v6 in it. about 155k on the clock.

What lifts are good and all that? i guess he is willing to go 2-3 inches. WHat is needed?

Go with a complete OME lift kit from www.rocky-road.com. This will raise the 4Runner a 2" and give you enough room to install some 285-75-16 tires.

Wow his rig is sick! Definitely gonna be using that as a guide. That is pretty much exactly what i want it to look like. I love Km2s

There is a thread about what lift did you get and why... look at that one. For me if you are going to off-road at all the Toytec Ultimate lift at about 1000 is probably the best then the Sonoran Steel set ups. That will still leave plenty of money for wheels and tires along with maybe an ARB air locker and gears if you choose. If it is just the look then the OME kit will be good. I have a mixture of the Sonoran Steel 1.2 and some All-Pro coilovers up front.

thanks man. I'll look at those lifts too. It isn't all for looks although it would probably be a 80 percent road /20 percent dirt rig.

I can tell you that the Toyec does ride realy nice and so does the Sonoran but for the price difference the Toytec all the way. I spent the big money for the Sonoran and had to wait a few months to get my tires. If I went with the Toytec lift I could have done lift and tires at one time and had just as capable a rig. My truck is a Daily driver and about the same 80/20 split that yours might be. As far as tires I was always a BFG guy but got a screaming deal on the Mitto terra Grapplers and have been really Impressed. I am running 285/75 16's.

Toytec will be on my list to look at as well. As for tires....i was lookin at the new mtr with kevlars or the New Goodyear Duratracs..i have the duratracs on my jeep and love em.

After Friday I will be posting pics of the lift Im about to have done...OME coils/shocks and Nitto Terra Grapplers...will look similar to pikeman's rig but the tires will be 265/75/16s instead.
