scored cylinder wall 91 3.0 4runner

so I bought a 4runner with 230kms that needed a headgasket. 0 compression in #6

I just pulled off the heads and the one cylinder wall is slightly scored in one spot.

I am no expert when it comes to rebuilding engines so Im looking for advice.

im guessing the only thing that would cause the scoring would be bad rings which means I need to pull the block?

will it be okay with a bit or scoring?

any suggestions or ideas would be great

Not sure if you have the tools,but how deep is scoring ? It's a long shot but try honing the cylinder

Scoring doesn't always mean bad rings. Could have been a broken spark plugs in the past. How was the compression in the rest of the cylinders?

Compression was anywhere between 90-150 for all the other cylinders.
I had lots of white smoke and zero compression.

Any time someone is in doubt of the health of their engine and compression is all over the place I would suggest at a minimum honing/boring the cylinders and new rings or pistons and rings if the cylinders were bored. It's hard to say in your case though because your compression numbers could have been due to your head gasket.

I would hate to say to put new head gaskets on it and call it a day. From my point of view I would suggest pulling the engine and taking the block to a machine shop to have all cylinders honed and re-ring the pistons.

100% agree on this. If ya gotta pull the motor its time to make the decision of completely rebuilding the motor or swapping in another healthier motor
