Scorpion ATR vs Destination A/T vs Dueler A/T Revo

Some people don't like the huge tread that some other tires have. And have different driving needs and desire different road handling/noise.Not that many seem to like the Revos compared to some of the other tires discussed on this thread. Most people focus on BFG AT KO's and Nitto's because they want the "aggressive"

First off the REVO was on the market long before the other two and has a following (I for one). Look at the following of the BFG KO considering its ratings. These tires have proven themselves over and over.
Each one of these three tires has their strengths and weaknesses. The one thing about the REVO that make me favor this tire is, I KNOW this tire will maintain its great bad weather traction throughout its life. Every other tire I owned faded after 35K miles. The jury is out on the other two.

I went with the Destination AT's for that exact reason. While theyre not as "proven" as the Revos (check out the number of miles reported), I was willing to take a chance based on the reviews so far and the much lower price. I read all the reviews, and several people who put a lot of miles on them compared them favorably to the Revos- that was a huge selling point for me.
They look great and have performed well so far (17k miles) on my truck.

And those reviews by regular people which most have no understanding of a tire and some are just justifying the money they spent.
My grandma could give an opinion on a tire but I knwo my grandma and her opinion wouldn't mean much to me since she's not knowledgeable about tires and she never drives over 50mph or in any inclement weather.
Take those ratings with a grain of salt since those aren't reviews with tests to back them up.

I like the Revos.
Drove to Seattle a few weeks ago and ran them through days and days of rains and squalls over freeways and winding mountian passes, across Crater Lake, Tillamook 9missing a big winter surge by hours that knocked out power and 90 mph gusts and 30 foot seas) , Astoria, the Columbia River, etc.
The Revos ran over water without the usual skip and stutter as the BFGs would do. The treadblocks on the Revos cut through water and flushed it out with confidence. The tread on the BFG would just lock the water in and casue skipping.
Now, I have not tried the Scorpion ATR although I had been pretty happy with the old Scorpion AT to own tow sets. I just saw the tread pattern in the ATR to be less agressive and less "water flushing" in the design.
And the few more years of customer expereince pushed me towards it. No regrets.

We got a decent storm on Thurs here in the northeast (~10" of very light powder). I was very impressed with the Destinations. No traction issues to speak of- acceleration, breaking, cornering all were effortless. No issues in powder or packed snow. Traffic was a killer, so speeds were limited to about 20mph, but I felt in control at all times. Very confidence inspiring. :bigok:keylay31 said:

I don't know a thing about the Destinations and the Revos. I will let ya know that when I 80 was closed with snow drifts and packed ice snow I was one of only two or three people on the freeway. The ATR Scorpions were dominating, there was a Honda CRV that was having trouble and many others vehicles would not even get westbound. For the 1st time, I expected this as the ratings of TR predicted it and the Scorps delivered.

Why are there so many REVO fans when the Destination and Scorpion are both rated better and cheaper?
Statistically speaking the fact that the Revos have so many more miles submitted and are rated higher in some categories than the other two tires would favor their purchase as the number of responses would tend to decrease their ranking. Here it is the opposite where millions more miles are factored in and the Revos are still way up there......So by far the Revos are a superior tire based on this survey at this point in time. The fact that the ATR and the Destinations rank higher in some categories could only be compared when as many miles were submitted for them as the Revos.
That being so, I really took pains over the purchase of the Scorps, and I think finally the Pirelli reputation for producing superior road feel tires and the fact that I don't go off road that often was the hook for me. I don't think a buyer could go wrong with any of these brands in their application.

I tend to agree that all 3 of these tires being discussed are good tires with many satisfied owners.
One thing worth noting sometimes it's worth trying something new. On my old 2003 SE, I replaced the Dunflops after 71,000km with Fusion XTI tires. At the time they were a cost effective alternative because my lease was up in less than 12 months. I considered the ATRs but couldn't justify the difference. After 23,000k, I took them off my 2003 and put them on my 2008 right from the dealer ship. They are more aggressive and better in snow.
I am still considering what to replace my brand new dunlops with. Likely one of these 3 tires will be considered.

Well, Alaskaman, you're right down the road from me as I am in the foothills. We just might get a good blow of snow this weekend to try out the Revos, Destinations and ATRs. Any of the above three would be a good tire to get us going and get us there.
