Rust sucks man. This truck is so clean & then to find that rusty nut, I was like WTF!?
On the bright side you won't have that problem again. HA, what other WTF nuts you gona find as you start maintaining it.

Version 2 by Mike Campbell, on FlickrIf wires and plugs have never been done then it could be that causing the issue. Hopefully it's a simple and cheap solution like that.
New Toyota keys feel good don't they?
Yes they do & it might sound stupid also but I bought a bunch really nice Toyota key chains off eBay. For both trucks & their backup keys. :high5:
I did the wires & plugs today. Ran great when cold, when I took her around the block the CEL came on & she ran a little rough. At least it wasn't a blinking CEL & I didn't have a violent vibration like the other night. So it was definitely time for plugs, they looked pretty done when I pulled them out. I still have a P0306 on cyl# 6, I'm ordering a Denso coil from Amazon. Only one of the 3 coils was Toyota. Looks like the PO went cheap with aftermarket. I'm surprised because he had it serviced at the dealer. The plugs were the correct NGK's. If that doesn't do it I'll replace the injector.
I got a flashing CEL coming home from work the other night. She ran fine from my job to the highway at 30-40mph but when entering the highway the engine started vibrating pretty bad at 50mph. I drove under 50 for a while & then tried to force it. Once I got up to 60 the vibrating stopped & I was cruising at 70 nicely....
Do a double dose of the Techron or the new Gummout injector cleaner. You have nothing to loose.
The Cataclean is also a good cleaner.

My old '97 did the same thing one time... plugs/wires fixed her right up. I would try moving that coil and see if the misfire code follows.
I have my rear seats folded down. The whole back is a puppy play pen.
Toys, blankets........
I wish I had seen the portion of your thread that mentioned DIY transponder key programming before I had one programmed at the dealer. Dammit! :redbrick:
Good to know for future reference though - and at least I didn't fall for the dealer scam when it came to keyless remotes.
There's a few threads on this subject. Also when you read the key reviews on Amazon a few guys posted the DIY instructions. What did they charge you? My old 01 Honda was $60 for one key but my GF's newer 04 Outback was $180. I'm never paying those prices again.

IMG_2855 by Mike Campbell, on FlickrWith the wasted (shared) spark on the 5VZ, you could have ignition problems on the 'opposite' plug reported than where the issue actually happened. Both spark plugs fire each time one of the coils is fired.I find it strange that I was still getting a misfire on cyl # 6 when it was actually cyl # 3 that was the problem. I have a nice new Denso coil now that wasn't needed.

Sounds like the spark was getting partially absorbed under the #3/6 coil and less of it made it to #6 through the wire than directly to cylinder 3.
