I see in your signature you have the JBA exhaust system. How do you like it? I'm looking at exhausts right now and JBA is one of the few complete exhaust systems for a 1996. I don't want anything obnoxiously loud but something that I can hear and is a bit more music to my ears compared to the stock exhaust.

It's a bit loud, but not obnoxious. I like it with the 5 speed. It doesn't sound like a Civic. I think the Borla sounds better but I couldn't afford it at the time. Plus the Borla is rear exit not side which I didn't want for wheelin' purposes. I bought the JBA Complete & a Magnaflow high flow cat for less than what the Borla cost. I could always change the muffler in a few years if I want.

Crank the Metal!

In February of 2002 my 3 year/36,000 mile warranty was up & I decided it was time for a kick-ass stereo. There was a car stereo/alarm place called 109 Sound & Security down the block from my old job in Lindenhurst, LI so I went in there & talked with the owner Mike. After a couple of weeks of research I decided to go with Sony “ES” Mobil for the Cass Head Unit, CD Changer & Amplifier. The "ES" stands for “Elevated Standard” & is their top of the line equipment. They also have “ES” components for home audio & video. The CD changer has a 12 second delay & doesn’t skip when the truck is bouncing around offroad.

I went with Pioneer for the Equalizer and door speakers & a JL Audio 10” w0 Sub with a sealed enclosure for nice tight bass. The Pioneer EQ is a real nice piece with +Gain, sub volume & crossover control at your finger tips. All 4 door speakers are TS series 3 ways - 6.75” in the front & 5.25” in the back .
The little 10" Sub from JL Audio slammed. It was my first time hearing of this company & I was impressed. I later used their speakers, subs & amps in my 2001 Corolla S (RIP) & my 2001 Accord EX Coupe (sold). I highly recommend JL Audio.
After I bought the Corolla as a DD in 2005 I ended up putting the JL 10" Sub in the trunk & added a JL 12 w1 in a ported enclosure in the back of the 4Runner. Holy crap! What a difference!

The cd changer is mounted under the drivers seat, the amp is mounted on the back of the DS rear seat & the sub was in a sealed box in the cargo area.
This stereo rocked & most of it is still working after 14 years. The 5 Channel Sony amp started smoking driving to work one day in 2003 cranking Pantera. Right after the warranty was up! Freakin’ figures right. The fuse should have blew but the plastic around the fuse melted. I smelled burning plastic while driving & the sound turned off. POS! I needed an amp that could handle my Heavy Metal & go to 11!

Hello JL Audio! I replaced the 5 channel “Xplod” with the 6 channel JL Audio e-6450. The 5th & 6th channels are bridged for the sub. This amp sounds sweet, warm & powerfully smooth compared to the Sony. I have abused this amp with volume & it’s still cranking after 13 years. The poor Pioneer door speakers are on their way out though. They’re ok at mid volume but are starting distort at higher power levels.

During the summer of 2002 me & my GF were planning a road trip to the Jack Daniels Distillery in Tennessee. I added the Vent Visor rain guards to the 4 doors. I was sick of rain water coming in the window every time I hit the brakes or made a right turn. They're still on there nice & tight.

Those crappy OEM Goodyear Wrangler RTS's had 52,000 miles & plenty of meat left but this was the perfect time to get rid of them for some A/T's. In Oct I started doing some research & decided on the Pirelli Scorpion A/T's @ 275/70 R16. These tires were amazing in sand, snow & no hydroplaning in the rain. I got a great deal on them by calling around to a few tire places & haggled them down to $115 a piece. They definitely added some missing aggressiveness & I love & miss the sporty raised white lettering. I got more than 70,000 miles out of these tires & was going to buy then again in 2008 but they changed the design & the reviews weren't so good, I was pissed & settled on Dueler Revo's

I found another good shot of the old Pirelli Scorpion A/T's. You could hit a puddle on the highway & not hydroplane. I've driven them home in blizzards. I've never owned a tire before or after these that inspired so much confidence while driving in nasty conditions. (Even though I'm really impressed with my current Hankook MT's). I really was upset when the were discontinued. The Bridgestone Dueler Revo A/T's that replaced these were close but at $60 more per tire & not as good in the rain or snow was disappointing. I also got them in 275/70R16.

In Oct of 2002 Me & my ex made a road trip to the Jack Daniels Distillery in Tennessee. We took a week & a half off because we wanted to drive over to Cleveland, Georgia to visit friends before heading back to Long Island, New York.

We camped everywhere we stopped & looking back we would have saved a lot of time by staying in motels. But we were looking to save money, we love camping & I have a ton of nice camping gear that shouldn’t go to waste.

The drive there was 1168 miles & the trip home was 964 miles taking the scenic route through the Appalachian Mountains & Shenandoah National Park. Add a few miles for getting lost & short scenic side trips here & there. It was close to 2500 miles in total.

I’m not going to post all of the pics, mostly the truck & some interesting shots that help show the trip. There are a lot of photo’s & this scanning thing is getting tedious. Enjoy

It was raining lightly but nothing bad. I've camped in pouring rain for 6 day's straight so a little drizzle is nothing for me. No plastic poncho's, all Gore-Tex.

When we got to Tennessee it was night time & we hit the thickest fog I've ever seen. I was doing 10mph with my flashers on in the right lane & couldn't see 20ft in front of the truck. 18 wheeler's were flying by in the left lane & I was scared shit. I didn't know the highway & had to follow the solid white line on the side of the road. We were looking for an exit because I felt if I stayed on the highway I was going to get rear ended by a big rig or wouldn't be able to see an accident in front of me. Finally the white line bared to the right & we got off. At the traffic light there was a gas station & we pulled in. We had a beer & went to sleep in the truck to wait for daylight.

The next morning before we got to Monroe County we hit this liquor store because we new we were going into a dry county. It had one of my favorite billboards on the side.
