One of my belts are screeching really bad when I start the engine but only for a few seconds. I have well over 100K and Im looking to replace all belts including the timing belt and a complete tune. I did a search on Rockauto.com but Im not sure what belts I need. I found timing belt kits but the belts are throwing me off. Also and forgive my ignorance but also looking for tune up kits I see it only brings a set of 3 wires. Is that correct ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Belts shouldn't screech unless they're loose. Get some good quality belts if they need replacing (gates,Mitsubishi, bando). The 3 wires is correct. It's a waste spark system. The 3 coils are on the passenger side, and the 3 wires run across the front of the motor to the drivers side.

welcome man! yeah u need accessory belts (power steering, AC, Alt) 3 in total. i replaced some on a buddy truck this weekend. your fine to just go to the auto parts store and just grab a few of those. belts are not something that needs to be toyota OEM

Probably not your belts then. Take off ALL the belts, then start the truck. If your schreeching remains, it is going to be your timing belt. It's most likely the hydraulic tensioner.

Toothed belts don't screech, in my experience. If the TB were slipping, truck would not run. Sorry, this is just a bad post.
Yes, you probably need to tighten one of the three aux. belts.

Are you a mechanic? Because I am and toothed belts WILL screech. I know because mine DOES. I first changed all my belts, still had a screech. Then I changed my idler puller for the PS pump. Still had a screech. Then I removed ALL the accessory belts, and STILL had a screech. I pulled the upper timing cover, and the screech was coming from the pulley with the hydraulic tensioner that is behind the lower cover. I used a straw to spray a little CLP onto the tensioner and the screech stopped for a few months.
Please don't spread misinformation. Toothed belts will screech or squeal, because they still have smooth pulleys for routing and tension, when the tensioner gets stuck or wears out, the belt can be loose and cause screeching.

Hmmm, never seen that. Was it just the loose belt or was the tension idler bearing noisy?
Still, why did you dismiss the possibility of a loose aux. belt? They are not that easy to get right the first time, and frequently slip soon after install. Much more likely than a bum tensioner, and certainly the first thing to look at before tearing into the timing belt components. Just because it was YOUR problem, doesn't mean it's his.

I'm just offering a possible quick diagnostic if tightening the belts does not work.
The pulley itself is fine, it's the hydraulic tensioner. It seems to get stuck on really cold dewey mornings. Once the engine warms up, the screech goes away. I'm going to limp it along for another year when I can save up to do the valve cover gaskets, radiator, trans cooler, and steering rack all at once.

If its a belt squeaking, tightening it might just make it worse, especially if its glazed.
Replace the belt that is squeaky and adjust tension properly.

I know you replied to the other guy, but I just wanted to say sorry. I read your original screechy belt post as the timing belt was skipping, probably like the other guy did.
To add on top though, if that is the case of the screeching, I'd slap on a new tensioner asap since it is hanging up. I've lost a belt before due to a stuck tensioner and consequently, a cylinder head as well. I know our engines are non interference (the 3.4), but still, it doesn't take long to burn straight through a belt when a tensioner isn't rolling.

I'm not too worried about it at the moment. It only does it 3-4 times a year on really cold and wet mornings and if I just let the truck warm up for 5 minutes it will go away. It only screeches if I try to drive away immediatly and I get a little squeek.
