Seam sealer?

I removed my front fenders while doing my 5vz swap. I noticed they have seam sealer. Would it be a bad idea to put the fenders back on without a new bead of sealer? I'm also assuming if i put new sealer i should probably remove all the old stuff right?

I have not worked with seam sealer, but I would scrape off the old stuff before putting on new.

Transtar Black Seam Sealer

Use this stuff right here. Use your Butane torch to heat up the old sealer, get to about 3-400 degrees and it will scrape right off. Clean it up with a scotch brite wheel to get back to bare metal. This stuff just requires a caulk gun to apply.

Thanks! I was actually looking at this stuff yesterday. I chipped off what i could with my scrapper and hammer then sanded the rest off with my buffer down to bare metal. I'll repaint this when i do my engine bay then put down a new bead

Butyl Tape would work in a pinch, but it's really only meant for bolt in side windows. It will get too hot in the engine bay and end up all runny. I've had to clean it up when it's 105 outside and the sheet metal is 120 degrees or more from sitting in the sun. It's gets runny and messy and would likely just dissolve completely from the extreme engine heat.

that makes sense, my only experience with butyl tape was peeling off when I removed the top on my old 81 Toyota Trekker to covert it to a removeable top. Made a soft ball size glob of goo
