Search Function Suggestion

Hi all, my name is Murph. New to this forum but not to other ones with previously owned cars.

I've noticed something about this forum when searching. Would it be possible (either in admin settings or preferences that maybe I haven't found) to NOT search in user signatures for info?

Here's what I'm noticing. As I just bought my 4Runner last week, I have a TON of rookie questions. I'd love to search for the info, but what I'm noticing is... for example....

I thought about getting a SPEC-USA adapter for my car for the AUX possibility. When I searched for it though, I get all sorts of irrelevant posts. However, it seems that if someone participating in the thread had "SPEC USA" in their signature line, all these posts come up as relevant to my search.

So anyway. Just a suggestion. I'm hoping that a) this suggestion is seen as helpful and is implemented, b) there is a setting that someone can help me change, or c) this hasn't been asked a million times already and I'm "that guy."

The absolute best way to search is with google. Simply use this format:

Example for 3rd Gen 4Runner:
Type in search bar "3rd Gen 4Runner bumper"

Example for 5th Gen 4Runner:
Type in the search bar "5th Gen 4Runner Entune"

The above two examples for a bumper for a 3rd gen and entune for a 5th gen 4Runner will give you relevant results and bring you right back here to this forum. Of course don't use the quotation marks lol. Our forum is probably the largest for 4Runner owners and almost all results, if you use the correct generation 4Runner prefix, will bring you back here to the proper thread or post.

are you using the "advanced search" option?
don't use quick search.

using the advanced option, make sure and choose "search in titles only" if you aren't already.

though, I have noticed the same issue using that option also, its generally much closer to what im looking for.

you may also need to adjust your search criteria. get creative to get the results you are looking for. many people complain about forum search engines not working well, but I am usually able to find what I need by altering WHAT I search for.

The forum search sucks, plain and simple. Even the "advanced" search is useless. Best to use Google as suggested by 1engineer.
