Sears Platinum 31M Battery Upgrade

Trail editions generally come with a 130a alternator. You can cross-check yours by the part number.

So, anyone know? when our trucks are in typical driving time, how much current does it draw?

I think the only downfall for using the 31M without doing occasional "top-up" using an external charger is that the automotive charging system is typical at 14.2V.... while these deep cycle 31M really want something like 14.7V to top them up to full....

What are people using now? It seems like Sears no longer makes the Platinum series of the 31M but only the standard version? I would really like to upgrade my stock battery and then eventually add a dual battery setup but I can't seem to find anything on why the Platinum version is no longer on Sears website

Anyone know of another battery as capable as the one mentioned in this thread? I went on sears and it looks like it's not available anymore.

Yeah, the original manufacturer of that Sears battery, the Odyssey by Enersys.

Google them, you should find it online all over the place.

Look up Odyssey, Optima and Northstar. Mixed review on Optima. Used to be very good but now manufactured in Mexico. Northstars are very expensive and I'm not sure if their 31 has the terminals in the correct position. Battery people tell me it's the "F" position. Some say F is for Ford, others say Foreign. I use a smaller Northstar. I think it's a 27F. Fits easier and a hell of a lot lighter but almost as much CCA and Reserve.

Is Odyssey a good brand? I have never heard of that before. I have always used Sears Platinum and they are super tough but never heard of Odyssey

I would hope they are good. The plant I do maintenance at is going to start making them.

Check out Northstar Batteries as well. Apparently started by some guys from Odyssey if I remember correctly.

"F" stands for "FLIP" The terminals are flipped.
