I like amsoil metal protector HD. not sure i like the idea of coating my entire underbody with a flammable material

My one buddy use that on his Ford. He liked the fact that dried..

I doubt WD-40 would be very flammable when it's been on for a while.

I know Fluid film isn't very flammable at all. I have actually even burned it off frame while welding. I had sections of metal covered in it and burnt it off to weld plates on. Then recoated again.

Is amsoil metal protector flammable?


Lots of fluids will work to keep the oxidation down. It's more or less whatever the owner prefers to use. :]

Can’t argue with those results.
An hour or two of work prior to every winter certainly pays off when your driving on treated roadways in the northeast.

How does your inside of your frame look? Do you occasionally sneak a camera in there and verify the inner frame isnt rotting out from the inside?

another nice side effect of this, is that all your nuts and bolts are not all rusted. ( for future repairs) The underside of your car looks great knowing that you live in the rust belt. Hard to believe 330k+miles and almost no visible rust

You can do what you want, but I only comment on what I do, not what others do. WD-40 works awesome for me and I can spray it on everything, and it lasts the whole year. Proven cheap results, no BS.

Its all black and solid, I spray WD-40 inside the whole frame at 160psi with open spray head. Everything is covered in a protective grime. Noooooo F'ing rot or rust.

Yup, only WD-40, think simple
***With compressor sprayer - outside frame, inside frame, whole belly, cross bars, driveshaft, gas tank, control arms, skids, everything, etc.
***With small spray can - inside rockers, inside door bottoms, inside hatch bottom, inside hood front lip, inside wheel well lips.

Great I figured you did and misting it in there at 160 psi would really atomize and fog it great deal.

I run the gun with no spray head, not like a typical paint sprayer, so the droplets are bigger and more direct, more like a heavy dousing. I can blast thru a bottle fairly quick.

Frame looks great dogtail! I just ran out of Fluid Film this year and might make the jump to WD-40 for next season, also a lot cheaper.

Is that a Kobalt spray gun you are using? Pretty sure I have the same one that I've been using for years.

I run the gun with no spray head, not like a typical paint sprayer, so the droplets are bigger and more direct, more like a heavy dousing. I can blast thru a bottle fairly quick.

Cant argue with results. I am curious if you ever tested how long WD-40 will repel water on your exterior painted body panels [ hood, fenders, doors]?

FF lasts about a month on exterior painted body panels [hood, fenders, doors] . That's what I figured it would. Being its liquidity and fairly easy to clean off.

I spray mine with a wool wax gun. It has a pipe about 18 inches and a screw on flex house with 4 holes in the head. my kit came with 3 quart plastic jugs for putting the FF in with lids. I mostly get the garage nice and hot before spraying FF.


Maybe WD-40 could send you some product for being their spokesman..

I consider mine pretty clean compared to most on here and its lived in New Jersey its whole life, bought brand new by mother back in 2001. Currently with 223,000 miles on the clock. Just gotta keep up with it that's all! I like fluid film too, but would definitely be interested in WD-40 as well.

Correct, that's a cheap Kobalt gun I got at Lowes.
You can keep your undercarriage and body from rusting obviously. So whatever you like using and can keep up with the proper maintenance and intervals to be most effective, that's key.
I think there's quite a few things that you can coat with to prevent rust, Fluid Film, various forms of petro products, mineral oil, canola oil, etc. As long as your application and method produces results you want. If you decide to go the WD40 route and you follow my write up method at the beginning of this thread you should have same result. I'm at 383K now on my 99 DD.

I juice up the inside of doors, hood, hatch and rockers thru the drain holes, and the wheel well fender and quarter lips. I find if any creeps to the outside visible paint, if I don't clean it, the film stays there, turns to a blackish grime and can stay there throughout year. Happens on the bottom of my doors. So its gots some stay put-ness.

The key is to do something in the rust belt. Find something that works for you and keep up with it.
