I recently purchased a 2005 4runner and am going through all the known problems before my comprehensive is up.
Right now it's in the service dept for 3 problems.
1. A thump sound when the wheel is turned all the way to the right and moving forward. Technician fixed it saying the front end needed to be lubed. OK I guess.
2. The sunroof made a noise when closing. Kind of like the track needed to be oiled or simply that it's a 3yr old truck. Tech said lubing it wouldn't help and that it needs a NEW assembly or something like that and that parts and labor are upwards of 2000 dollars. So it's not covered because my 3year 36 is up.. Heres where it gets weird.
I tell him "what about the comprehensive?"
He said: "what comprehensive...is it certified?"
I said YES.
He said "well I guess its covered then, we will fix it"
He also said he didn't see it come up as certified.
He said where did you buy it. I told him.
Is it possible he didn't know it's certified having my registration card?
I felt as if he trapped himself and then he realized he now has to fix it like he suggested. BUT he originally thought I wouldn't go for the out of warranty $2000 fix. Maybe not all people are bad. Who knows.
3. The seat click.
I told him I know all about the problems (thanks to this site) and asked if he knew about it.
He said if it's in the service bulletin he will know.
I said ok I just know it's a problematic fix etc.........
He calls and tells me the bulletin calls for them to SHAVE the bolts down or something like that and that it's NOT covered because he's not actually replacing any PART. HOWEVER he said he would take care of it anyway.
MEANWHILE I have the TSB right here on my desk stating theres an improved seat assembly available.
SO onto my other question:
Should I tell him about this TSB? Or is shaving the bolts a BETTER fix than the replacement assembly.
Basically I don't want to bring it up if the guy knows that his fix is better than Toyotas.
Any comments about this situation are welcome.
