Seat options from other toyota/lexus cars

Hey everyone - thanks again for making this a great forum.

My question is, does anyone know if seats from other toyota vehicles from years that are close to mine will fit my 4r. I have 1998 limited with leather, but the seats are pretty toast. The padding is all worn out, the leather is really hard and the seats are actually a bit narrow too.

I'm wondering if I can fit in other leather seats from a camry or possibly a lexus es 300 in 98 - 02 range, or something else in the 00 - 02 range. I would like to get something more cushy and possibly in better shape. "Hopefully" I can find something that will just bolt right in, with some adjustment for the electrical connections.

Scotty at AOR was telling me that he has the seats from a 2nd gen in a 3rdgen?? I think? and they are super comfortable.

Oh man, those seats are really comfortable - like the ones in the sequioa. The question is do they bolt in or are mods necessary? I would do it with another seat I'm just worried about the safety factor if not using the original seat bolt holes.

I know a lot of the Tacoma guys like the newer gen Celica seats, I think they only come in black though?

I've actually heard that everything from 2nd through 4th gen will bolt right in as far as 4runner seats go. Not totally sure on that, guy who told me is a huge Toy nut, but a Taco guy. :sobbing:

I eventually want to figure out a way to switch over to leather so i'm trying to do some research myself as to whether the best route to go:

1. Take current cloth seats (which are in excellent condition) to upholstery shop and have them recover in leather?

2. Find some good condition 3rd gen leather seats from a junk yard, of course this may take awhile to piece a set together, but then I can probably sell my cloth seats to offset some of the cost.

3. Find leather seats from another toyota vehicle or different gen T4R? This has been the most thought provoking idea because it seems like it would open up alot more doors of options to consider.


Anybody got any updated ideas as per the OP's original question? Is it possible to swap in some nice Avalon leather

I don't think this is possible because I believe the avalon seats are HUGE compared to the 4runner. I could be wrong, but I was in my buddy's avalon the other week and I felt like I was sitting on a coach.

I am also interested in this topic, I've been using a cheap leather seat cover with decent success for the last few months.

I was joking slightly with regards to the Avalon example, those do sorta feel like your driving a lazy boy down the highway. It would be sweet though to have a nice comfy heated leather butt cushion to sink down in while plowing through a big old field of fresh snow

I wish I had some pictures handy to show you right now, hopefully I can grab them tomorrow at work (my server's hard drives are failing). I put leather seats from a 2004 Tacoma into my 1996 4Runner Limited with great results. They are a direct swap except the front outboard mount which needs to be bent with a pair of pliers, and you'll likely need to lengthen the bolt hole. I also had to get a longer bolt for that location as well just because of the different angle of the bracket making the stock bolt not reach. It's a very minor modification, only requires a drill and a pair of pliers.

I'll try to get you some pics up soon.

Well I had a buddy who wrecked his 04 Tacoma and was parting it out. He gave me these seats in exchange for some car audio work. I know I got a really good deal out of it, but I honestly don't know what you might expect to pay for something like these. I think they sell for over $1000 new from Toyota.
