Seattle Area Maintenance and Meet

A Wilson: BAAHHHHAAHHHHAHHHHhhhAAAAA

Haus: I told you about it a month after I recieved the engine that I needed a copy and then every time I tried to collect my core charge that you STILL owe me i informed you I needed a copy. And it very well could have been the fans that caused it but i monotored that more than i monitor my bank account! (Which is a lot) I never drive with out having my obd2 scanner up and running..and when I came to you for a fan clutch you recomended I go to an electric fan anyways. You recommended flex a lite fans which are also hot garbage. And stop writing everything like your writing evidence for court. if I was going to take you to court I would have already done it. Besides, I DON'T HAVE ANY PROOF I BOUGHT THE ENGINE FROM YOU!

Just FYI all. He still owes me a core charge because after a few failed attempts at getting the money, I just told him to keep it so I could Exchange it for parts.

Btw guys we are at the hospital! Having baby abby today!

jmt2404,Perhaps it was caused from the failure and success with your custom cooling system that you had worked on for some time in August of this year, as you posted a thread about it yourself, particularly your post #14 (stop leak that you added, before the new engine, that may be clogging the cooling system)
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/95399-almost-overheated-electric-fans.html

But as the heat tab didn't melt, you were still covered under warranty.

Is it the "builders mistake" on this particular build? or the customers mistake from trail and error while building a custom cooling system? We may never know, but one thing that I stand by is the warranties that I grant and that I stand strongly behind them.

Don't come on our forums and try to make a well respected member look like some hack who's out behind his garage playing with everything and anything he can get his hands on. Switching out to a dual electric fan system isn't something that's off the radar as far as mods.

You claim that your "reputation" is the most valued thing to your business. What kind of reputation is that exactly? Because it seems like it's one that's going to try to find any way out of a situation. You're trying to claim that his "custom" cooling system is the problem, but you admit that the heating tab didn't melt. So, his cooling system was sub-par, overheated the engine, but at one degree under what would melt the heat tab? OK, that makes sense. You might be right, there COULD be some sort of other cause to the damage, BUT all signs are pointing to one thing. Yes, the only way to truly know is to pull it out and look, but as a shop who's reputation is the most valued thing, I would hope that you would want to pull it yourself to show JTM and us that it wasn't your engine, but something else. And if it was the engine, stand behind your reputation and your warranty and fix it.

We see where you stand and how you are standing. Izz did a great job at playing devil's advocate and I'm sure he made more than myself look at it from both sides. I know that after reading it, I started to think a lot more about your side, but after that post, I'm done. A reputable shop wouldn't have to stoop to such tactics. They would let their business practices do the talking for them.

so haus you hope to become a sponsor here on the forums from your earlier posts? well i got news for you, its not gonna happen. you come on here like hepar said and try and make a well respected forum member look like an idiot or imply he is messing with things and thats what caused the failure then you turn around and say well what ever he did didnt cause any damage.... look man, this isnt good business for you, trust me, i too am a small business owner, and if this was my company and i was in your shoes and trying to become a sponsor here i would simply eat the cost of R&I of the engines and honor my warranty. it would go a long way to show future customers that you will stand behind your product. good luck at becoming a sponsor here or on any other toyota specific forum. your name is arleady trashed to most of us on here, even those who have not piped in on this thread. you are now in damage control mode(or should be) and should be looking at how to, as quickly as possible rectify the situation and start clearing your name. if one of my roof racks broke or broke something on someones vehicle and it "could of been" my(the manufactures) fault i would fix and or replace the damages or make the situation right.

you came here to us, to do what? start a pissing match, fight, argument what? did you really think you would quiet us down? be real, if anything you have added fuel to a dieing fire, and not only kept this going, but increased its size. you are less than smart, and just from what ive seen about how you conduct your self here on the internet, it would make me seriously question anyone who would go to you knowing this thread exists. i got news for you man, you will lose this fight all day long. in court if john decides to take you(i recommend he dose, and ive even gone so far as to offer my co. attorneys to him) with or with out a receipt you have more than implied you made the motor for him, and you implied its not his fault, it was a bad motor, nor did he do anything to damaged the motor ect ect ect. the responsibility lies on you, and you know it and you have admitted it. so why not stand behind your word and be a man and honor your product? one way or another your gonna lose, its up to you how much you lose. the quicker and quieter this goes away the best for you and your business(no one is threatening you just so we are clear here, just some friendly advice from one business owner to another).

i see this now as a question of how far the builder is willing to go to stand behind his product, is he going to take the easy way out and make the customer eat the total loss by hiding behind clauses in the warranty or is the builder willing to take at least some of the responsibility here and do what he can to keep his costumer happy and get him back out on the road......

so far what i'm seeing here is the builder is doing nothing more then he is legally obligated to, and honestly i can't say i look favorably upon such a thing.

like i've stated 3 times

there's a big difference between what is right and what is legally obligated to.

we all know john keeps an eye on his truck and is competent, we know him.
if this guy wants to keep going about things like this instead of coming to a fair compromise for both parties that's his prerogative, nothing john or anybody else can do about it besides spread the word. legally he is living up to his end of the deal, which is fair enough, but not RIGHT

we all know that john runs his scanguage and keeps an eye on things with far better resolution then most, so calling attention to the previous thread is an obvious smoke screen amongst the other technicalities just goes to show that he is about profit over service....which is fine too, those companies don't tend to last long......... we know he hangs out on yotatech now as well and i'm pretty sure he's a poster over in my VW forum "the samba" for engine builds as well, amongst a few other places where i think i heard that name before......

the word spreads fast, so keep the flaming to a minimum and just link everyone you know to this thread, and let them make up their mind, that's really the best thing you can do in this situation, i don't see much legal recourse happening and in the end even if john did win the guy is only out a few thousand tops, but calling him out on a public forum, taking the high road and exposing how the guy handles a botched job, which lets face it will happen to any and every engine builder from time to time, is going to cost him who knows how much in the long run $$$$$$$$, so making threats and just talking crap in general does no one any good, makes us look bad and people will focus on that instead of this guy fubar'ing a job and making the customer eat it because of technicalities and that new flat screen tv in his living room....which is what the case really is here.....

maybe we can all go over to johns house for another meet
and help sort this out for him, i got a few engine hoists we can use and infinite tools from work, maybe while we're in there we can check everything else out while we're at it and see what really happened....this really sucks john and i don't blame you for being pissed in anyway he cost you a fair amount of money and is only willing to deviate from his warranty enough to cover his ass and not cost him any money or time in the end... besides fixing what he fubar'd in the first place....

i'm all for small companies, guys working out of their garages and shacks, or whatever, in fact it is something you become quite used to after restoring and building more then a few classic imports , i get the warranties and clauses ect ect, he's gotta put food on the table and protect himself as well, but this isn't a typical case of some 16 yr kid buying an engine and trying to install it with the wall mart tool set his mommy bought for christmas
he paid to have it professionally installed and the install was right on the money......

IF it was my company...
the right thing todo :
have him drive up to your shop pull the motor for free
inspect the heads and block, figure out what happened
go from there....
if it was john's fault make him pay for both the removal and install.....
if it was your fault just make him pay for the install of the new motor at a discounted shop time fee.....but he still pays something....

the way this works out above
is if it was johns fault you get paid for your time and labour for removal and install, he looks stupid, we all look stupid... your reputation as a engine builder is exemplified by what you do, and everyone leaves happy

if it was your fault, john learns his lesson on 3rd party installers, you still get paid, albeit not as much but it's still something, everyone here and everyone we ever come into contact with says "yeah that guy is worth going to if somethings not right he'll make it right" and you get more work from this forum and other forums us and everyone else who reads this and other forums we visit

there's not much for you too lose here really except a bunch of word of mouth customers if you do nothing.....

i'm not commenting further on the situation until there is some sort of resolution as it seems pretty clear where the builder stands on this and john is just screwed...:AK47:

really really really sucks buddy, let us know if we can help in anyway.:(

Yeah I had no intention into making it into a pissing contest. I just wanted everyone to know about his business and how he handles problems. By no means was this an act to try and get Eric or his company to fix my engine. I do not trust him or his work.

That's a good solution you have izz. It's fair for both sides, but at this point the only business I would do with Eric is to return my engine for a refund. Or he can split the cost with me for new head gasket and to get the heads looked at, at another shop at my choice.

That's it. Eric (Haus) knows I do not want him to work on my runner any more. I think your very knowledgable when it comes to these motors but I do not trust you as a person or a business owner.

this really sucks and weren't you getting ready to be deployed again as well?

Lol yeah I don't know how you write so much, but I'm glad you do. You do play a good devils advocate and good at looking at both sides. And I might need a hand this weekend maybe.. or next week.. we will see how the wife is feeling..

Nothing could ruin today or the holidays.. I am a proud new father of a beautiful baby girl!!!!

Congrats again! Definitely let us know if you need a hand.

And Izz. I'm always surprised that someone who rallies around with 5 of 6 lugs on their wheel can write something so eloquent and concise. :flamethrwoer2:

Oops. I forgot that we're supposed to be done flaming.

haha, right, take one bolt off every assembly and throw it away, that's my motto, lol.....

i'm a lazy bas****, i need to replace those lugs one day, and this time not with stupid locking ones that i'm just going to lose the key to anyways!
:ybrick:

yeah sounds great, i just hope they work with my rims, the rims have a deep hole so the lug nut has to be a certain OD or it wont fit...that said, sorry i've been a douche about your bits, i've been in and out of work this week sick, i have the parts here with me today and will take care of that for ya....sorry again for not being as prompt as i should be =-)

no worries, i have just been driving around with a smashed mirror for only 3 weeks, im sure i could go a few more lol, besides ive just been super lazy so even if i did have it i probably would not have installed it yet. yeah ill ship those dang lugs out either this week or frist thing next week, they are an acorn style shank spline locking lug so they can be torqued.

I have a welder but its not to powerful and I'm not the best welder lol.. I would go down to badlands and have them weld them on. they are pretty user friendly over there. And I think they would be the best on price.

what is badlands?

Badland bumpers Home

They have some of the best tube bumpers I have ever seen. I think they are my favorite.. Except for my bumper of course :D.. Check them out. They are local-ish to seattle.

2nd that. It's where I had my bumper built and they welded on my sliders as well. $75 out the door.
