Installed the same [MENTION=8828]slyfox75[/MENTION] AIP bypass kit on my '07 V8 and it was easy and gives a piece of mind for the future of my rig. [MENTION=355578]michael99b[/MENTION] - Do it!
 
Installed the bypass. Good piece of mind on a component that would eventually fail. Not sure why someone would be so worried about selling a used vehicle as-is. Simply remove the bypass if worried about selling or passing emissions on a cold start.
 
Quick question for everyone. I am going to test drive a 2007 V8 this week. The truck had ECU reprogrammed by the dealer according to Carfax. I believe in general, the ECU reflash performed by the dealer was to address the brakes "issue". Would this affect my ability to use Slyfox bypass kit in any shape or form? Just want to see if I need to be looking for 4Runners only that have NOT had their ECU reprogrammed. Thanks in advance!

That won't affect anything to do with the AIP system. Should be business as usual.

The only difference is how many steps you need to take in the installation. If the truck has already thrown a CEL because of it, you will probably need to spend an extra 15 minutes installing the blocking plates. If no codes yet, simply wiring in the bypass is all that is necessary.

Are the blocking plates sold separately? I have only seen them with the full kit.
 
Is this problem on all Toyota V8's?

I just acquired an '08 Tundra with the 5.7 V8. As near as I can tell, the 5.7 is not mentioned as having this problem, only th 4.7. Just checking to see if this is correct.

Thanks Jeff. I had asked Hewitt if he sold them via email this morning, (before I saw you sold them), and he replied and said he wasn't.

I bought your bypass a few months ago, never installed it, as I wasn't driving it because I needed to get the timing belt replaced proactively. 197k, I bought this in May.

The other day I started it for the first time in a while, and it lit up with all the lights, CEL etc. I turned it right off. I am going to get a code reader today and see what is going on. I have never heard the vacuum cleaner sound.

What would you suggest I do at this point, besides getting the codes? If the valves are stuck open, is there a way to get them closed?

Since I now have CELs, what steps should I take before installing your kit?

I know I may be jumping the gun here, since I don't have the codes yet.

Get codes.
Install the bypass!! :)
You should have installed it when you got it:) I know your kicking yourself now. If stuck open, you need plates and then it wont matter.

No need to do anything with the valves themselves if the you have "open" codes, just install the plates. Once you've installed the plates and electronics you can clear the codes via scantool.

Yes yes, I AM kicking myself! I truly haven't been driving it since I got your kit, maybe twice. I only started it to move it.

Well, I got a HF code reader last night. I just pulled the codes, and I sure hope I dodged a bullet.
The codes are:
Fault 0456
Pending: P0441
Pending: P0455
I did a quick search on this, and looks like this is a issue with the Evaporative Emission System?
Can anyone confirm this?

If this is correct, first thing in the morning I am installing Jeff's kit.

Yes those codes are for an evaporative emission system leak, the P0456 is for a small leak, both P0441 and P0455 are for gross leaks.

Usually but not always those codes especially the last two are from a loose gas cap or a bad o-ring on the gas cap, replace the gas cap with a OEM not a aftermarket cap and then clear the codes and see if they come back, and of course install the bypass kit ASAP!!

Yep, thanks. That's what I figured. First step will be installing the kit. Then clear the codes and get a gas cap.

Just keep in mind that the codes could also be another leak, a cracked hose/s, a leaky evap canister, etc. and not the gas cap, but I would still start with the cap which is a common item to fail in the system
