Serpentine Belt replacement

Thanks for all the info shared on this thread. Just wanted to share my experience.

2013 Trail at 92K - OEM belt was 2150. Amazon says 2145 for my truck but I purchased the 2150. The original was showing its age but looked to have some life left in it. Bando replacement from Amazon looks to be quality.

Overall easy job. Couldn't find the hole to lock it back but an 18" breaker bar with 12 point 14mm deep socket made the job easy. Hardest part in reinstallation was getting it under the fan pulley cause the clearance was so close.

I was going to replace tensioner and/or pulleys but they're stupid expensive and luckily they all look/sound good [emoji106]

I bought the 2150 Bando Rib Ace off Amazon. Part number matches what's recommended on Bando website and was ~1500 reviews. My concern is that the ribs are some kind of felt while the front side is I"m assuming the EDPM rubber printed on it.
Should the ribs be felt or is this some kind of knock off? Felt doesn't seem like the right material for a belt.

I definitely understand your concerns, but honestly I hadn't thought that far into it. I have faith that the engineers at Bando balanced the quality/durability and materials/price..... They seem to have their hands in a whole lot of the auto industry and if they sucked they would lose their contracts. Slap it on the truck and feel good about it being replaced! :bluejump:

So no one has tackled the belt tensioner yet it seems? Mine is a 2012 Limited with 146K miles ... so I'm going to do it all as preventative maintenance. I bought all 3 idler bearings, as well as the tensioner (ouch, expensive)
Looks like the alternator as well as the AC compressor has to come off to get at the tensioner .... I can't find a write up or You Tube video on it ... but I'm going to tackle it.

The only time I've ever had a problem with a tensioner is when the tensioner can't move. I had a vehicle that the belt lasted quite some time and when I replaced the belt, the tensioner was "stuck". New belt squealed. Took belt off, lubed up the tensioner, made sure it stroked properly and went on with life.

Maybe check the FJ forums as well. Didn't the Tacoma have the same engine a few years back also? They both have great forums that will probably help as well. Good luck!

2012 SR5P here with 145K. Haven't touched it. It moves freely every time I have changed the belt and carries plenty of tension. I did change all 3 idler pulleys somewhere around 80-90k though.

I'd be very interested to see what you end up having to do to swap it out.

I have. It was a PITA. Have to move (but not disconnect) the A/C compressor.

The Gates replacement was a poor fit, the holes did not line up properly.

Be advised the tensioner pulley mount bolt is LH thread.

I'll advise once I'm finished. As to the Gates being a poor fit ... I read the reviews of what's available on the aftermarket for those tensioners ... and decided to got with the OEM Toyota tensioner. Was just over $200 ... but peace of mind. And it's sold as a unit ... so the tensioner pulley/bearing is in place. I haven't owned the 2012 long, and was just working my way through maintaining all of the truck's systems to get it ready to drive. I started to skip this whole tensioner & 3 pulley setup and just replace the belt ... but I knew it would drive me crazy ... always wondering lol. I will say .. that setup with 4 pulleys counting the tensioner is one of the oddest I've ran across. But obviously it works well for Toyota.

Wish I had, but I was short on time.

After almost 2 years and 18,000 miles on my Bando 7PK2150 replacement it still looks great and no belt stretch.
I guess I can almost start to rest comfortably on it.

After looking at:
2016 TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4.0L V6 Belt | RockAuto

and also looking at:
Bando Online Parts Catalog

I noticed that BOTH of these sites lists the OEM part as "99367H2150".
However, this Toyota part number has been superseded with "90916A2015".

So, in conclusion:

"99367H2150" = "Bando 7PK2145"
"90916A2015" = "Bando 7PK2150"

And the latest Toyota part number for the 5th gen Serpentine Belt is "90916A2015". So, I would recommend getting the "Bando 7PK2150".

I hope this clears things up!

Is anyone here having a hard time finding the Bando 7PK2150 online? I tried RockAuto and Amazon, but neither seem to have it in stock.

Background: my 2015 has over 170,000 on the original belt with no cracks, but I am putting in a DC Power 270XP Alternator... best to do all my deferred maintenance ASAP (belt, coolant flush, and inspect all the moving bits).

How come you are choosing Bando over OEM? I haven't done any research but I'm at 220k on my original belt and it looks fine. Camelback may have your original. change to your model in link below.

I see it available from 4 sellers but the price is double or triple the $12 I paid.
Amazon.com: Bando 7PK2150 OEM Quality Serpentine Belt: Automotive
My OEM was a no-name and did not look like a Bando. Others reported that theirs was labeled Bando and I also see a pic of a Mitsuboshi.

I’m impressed with those mileage numbers for sure.
Can you get a name brand belt from a place like O’Reilly’s?
I would feel good with a Gates replacement.

Probably. I hadn't gotten that far in my research.

I have had good luck with Gates belts but just put one on when I did the alternator and was getting a loud ticking at startup for about a minute. I figured for sure it was my $300 OEM alternator but when I swapped back to the factory belt it went away. At least with today's startup. I will try the Bando 7PK2145 as the stock one is enough of a pain, don't want a new one any shorter.

looks like the Gates belt from my local O'Rielly's is still $49, and I need to go to the dealership to get the Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant... So, I'll probably just get the OEM/Stock one anyway.
