shackle cling clang mod

so i've had my shackles on my SSS bumper for a few weeks now. There is a big gap in the recovery point mounts. The driver's side is ok since it's got tension from the winch hook that's in there but the passenger side is loose, everytime i go over rough terrain the goes cling clang, cling clang, driving me nuts. so i did a little mod to prevent this. I had saved my upper control arms bushings when i did a refurb of my uca's a few months back. all i did was cut the bushings and it fits in there like a glove. check out some pics.

If you don't have bushings, these work pretty well from amazon along with these.

i went to home depot and lowes looking for some thick plastic washer, but couldn't find anything that'll fit right. i never looked in amazon. but i had those bushing sitting around. and i like the red as well.

Why not just keep the shackles in your recovery gear kit, inside? I collect the things as they litter trails from falling off of peoples' vehicles.

Yeah I don't think I have ever bought a shackle lol. They are all over the trails though.

Another option would be to apply a single wrap of electrical tape to the shackle bolt. This snugs it up nicely to prevent the shackle from swinging about and reduces the likelihood of the bolt working itself loose.

I got them for my 4Runner after my old rubber hose mod finally wore out. They work well. I superglued the discs together so it's just two thick rubber washers to deal with.

I'm not too worried about people stealing mine as I use a scewdriver to snug them tight, so someone would need a long tool/prybar to loosen them.

While there are many ways to skin a cat, I use a zip tie. The washers do look nice. IMHO, washers/bushings add time and cost without added benefit.

i stopped leaving front shackles on after i had one on my old wrangler fall off on the highway and leave a good sized dent in the skids, i have no idea what happened after that. my rear one i just leave retard tight, and usually full of mud.
