Shackles?

Looking around on Amazon and found this to be a nice addition to the rig:

Smittybilt 13047B 3/4" Black D-Ring : Amazon.com : Automotive

With the new rubbers and spacer lift, I foresee more chances of getting myself in trouble/offering help to the stranded. Anyone have shackles or D-ring on their rig? Experience?

Also, I know we have one towing point in the front, but I can already tell putting a recovery strap there will no doubt damage the front bumper. In cases where the only recovery point is the front of the truck, what options are there?

Maybe a bad batch but one of the reviews mentioned that this isn't accurate and won't fit the 2012 4runner Product reviews

"This is made in China and is not a true 2 inches in the top to bottom dimension. It measures at 2.125 and WILL NOT fit in the 2" receiver of my 2012 Toyota 4runner. I returned this for an exchange and the second one is exactly the same. I considered grinding it down, but after reading another reviewers experience with this process, I will return it for a refund and stay clear of Smittybilt products."

I have the same one installed, actually a bit on the loose side I would say if anything.

Those are the exact same shackles SHROCKWORKS sells (add-on) with their front bumper.

I have the exact same one and it too fits fine, being a little on the loose side as well. Not sure what the reviewer was dealing with.........
 
For the rear I have one of these

Beautiful piece of art really. But the rear bumper will have two recovery points, aka shackle mounts. For the front the Shrockworks has that covered.

Does anyone have any experience with the soft shackles from Lucky 8? I like the no-banging around, easy storage.. and great use for pun and other usages LOL. :trophy:

A mid-price option for hitch mount D ring, between the smitty built and others on the low end, and the EXPENSIVE machined Viking on the high end is this.

Regarding those lucky things. I don't understand how the Lucky 8 synthetic rope "shackle" can be used as a shackle ????

That knot at the end does not pull through the loop?

And if it does not pull through, then how could it be used to attach a strap or kinetic rope to the truck or something???

I could see it functioning as a low weight lower durability Master Link http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-masterlink.htm , but not as a shackle....

I use a pintle style hitch in the rear, it's stronger and functional since I can tow my trailer with it. I also have 2 Crosby alloy 3/4" shackles up front on my 4th gen on the factory recovery/griping points. I haven't had to use them and I hope not too until I can fabricate a proper recovery point since Toyota failed at it.
