Shank style lug nuts on factory steel wheel

Hi there-
Im wondering if the factory shank style lug nuts on 3rd gens work fine for the steel wheels that are commonly used for the spare. Im wondering because Im running two 16" wheels on my trailer.

I assume that they do work, its not like these trucks come with spare wheel lugs.

The shank nuts on mine work, because they don't bear on the shank--the wheel hole on the steel spare is tight to the lug stud, so the nut pushes with its end against the wheel. I don't know if it is ideal for permanent use, but it doesn't do any damage.
