Shift Bushing

99' 3.4 Manual.
Replaced shifter seat no problem, but the plastic bushing that clips on the bottom of the shift lever (ball/socket joint). Would not go on and was clearly a smaller outside diameter as well. I may have been able to beat it on with a hammer but just pushing it by hand had it deforming severely, it would have split I'm sure.

I've checked with the dealer and the part number (33548-30010 Bush, Shift Lever) checks out with no supersedes or replaced by.

Anyone else run into this?

The shifter socket is a tight squeeze, no question. My experience was similar, however I used the HD replacement shifter socket from Marlin Crawler. It was extremely tight. I placed the shifter socket on the bottom of the shifter and pressed it against the ground using my body weight to get it to snap in.

So just to be clear, I have the correct part? Toyota changed a part dramatically without issuing a new part number and associated “replaced by” reference. That’s a first for me but no biggie. I’ll pull it out and swap it in the morning. Thanks all.

Old thread revival. Been trying to get bushing seat out of shifter assembly but a little stumped and dont want to start going western on it. Does someone have a how-to on this? I have the shifter assembly out and on the work bench. Bottom bushing (that goes into transmission) is visible, but bushing that houses ball socket on shifter is contained and I cannot figure out how to get to it. Thanks in advance!

Edit - Figured it out. The trick is to push down on the top hat piece, it will push downward against the spring, then rotate counter clockwise. This allows the shifter to be separated from the assembly

1997 4Runner Bushing not same Shape as Marlin Crawler?

I pulled out a bushing that doesn't match the standard / Marlin Crawler bushings out of a 3rd gen 1997 4Runner with a R150F. I can't seem to find anywhere that sells it or even a part number. I tried the Marlin Crawler one, but it causes the shifter to get stuck in 4th gear. Any help would be appreciated.
