shifter problems

i have seen alot like this, 99-02. the shifter wears out on one side then wobbles and rattles while on the road. anyone else have this problem? are there bushings or bearings on the sides? does anyone know?

my shiffter moves when going over speed bumps and pot holes. i assume it was normal. (i have a '00 4runner since a few month only)

replaced what was left of the old bushings and it is nice and tight now. we will see how long they will last.
