Shipping Wheels and Tires

We had a few questions about it so I thought I would just post how I shipped mine via UPS. Cost from PA to CO was I think $ 275ish but I insured for $ 1K. They got there in the same shape as shipped. I aired them down to about 20 psi

If you are selling yours its well worth the extra effort to offer shipping. I sold mine in under a week (had two firm offers) while others who will not ship are still for sale.

That's cool.

I could do that if the shipping company here actually returned phone calls. The place is manned by one dude who's only there for like 10 minutes a week, when a truck comes (literally - I bought a recumbent tricycle and it was shipped freight. Took about two weeks after it arrived to nail down the guy and get my bike). The last poor soul who offered to buy my tires and rims dealt with the same issue, until we both just gave up.
 
Thanks for posting this. That's a lot easier than I thought. I'm looking at upgrading from the 20"LE wheels soon and was trying to figure out how the heck you would even ship wheels.

Quick question, do you pay shipping for each tire separately or are they a single unit? Imagine the stress of tracking four tires and seeing them loaded to different trucks...:).
 
Can't see TS's pictures but when shipping rims / tires to myself from the US to Germany (when I was stationed there)

I'd sandwich the rims with card board cutouts and then go to town wrapping the rim and tire with packing tape. Worked great (shipped a number of rims to myself this way over the years)
 
Wow, I would never guessed that's how people ship them. I guess my wife is right, I don't know anything...

But there comes a time were men have to remind themselves of what positive things they have accomplished.....it just struck me that this may be one of those times.

If you zoom in really close on the shipping label you might be able to read the weight :)

The tire is ~36 lbs according to tirerack, and I guess the wheel is 20-30 lbs? So figured ~60-70 lbs each?
 
I found posts from a couple of people who weighed their LE wheels & tires and they were in the 73-75 lbs range.
